Going for the opposite of overkill (should be underkill right?) when it comes to VRAM, Gigabyte Technology has decided on rolling out a customized, overclocked Radeon HD 7850 card that has half the memory amount found even on stock models - 1 GB. Gigabyte's memory-light card is codenamed GV-R785OC-1GD and it features an Ultra Durable 2 design (Ferrite Core Chokes, Low RDS (on) MOSFET, Lower ESR Solid Capacitors), a WindForce 2X cooler with two fans and two copper heatpipes, a blue PCB, a GPU clocked at 900 MHz (860 MHz stock), a 256-bit memory interface, a VRAM frequency of 4800 MHz, one DVI port, a gold-plated HDMI out and two mini DisplayPort connectors.

The GV-R785OC-1GD is currently up for pre-order @ €264.71.

So... Gigabyte's following Club3D's approach with their Royal Queen 7850?

On the topic of "underkill", I wonder if someone will push out a 1GB GTX670? The current generation of GeForce cards currently lacks a 256-bit card with 1GB and could use one.

Not following anything. 1GB version of HD 7850 was planned from the beginning. Most manufacturers have released their 1GB versions some time ago. Gigabyte is just lagging behind.

GTX 670/HD 7970 1GB would be complete BS. They're too fast for 1GB and would be clearly limited by memory amount. HD 7850 and maybe GTX 650 Ti (or GTX 655) are just good enough for 1GB when used in single-GPU config at lower or no AA levels and lower resolutions.

Card makes sense for MANY markets where people are still running XP or x86. I'm sure more than half the world is still on Windows x86... so keeping memory within the memory footprint makes sense.

That's a whole lotta fancy for a chopped card(The whole Ultra Durable treatment)Which is probably why it has such a high price. If your gonna spend that kind of money why not get the "full version"

Enough already! Does anyone have common sense on these posts?! IT is obviously a typo. change the 2 to a 1 and the price is correct. 165 euros!

While I'm sure your right. This is the only "source" available at the moment. It does come with Borderlands 2 :)

This isn't a typo. It's just that this card is nicht verfügbar. When it comes out, it will cost around 170 EUR.

Yep, 7850 should go against the 655. Although they are out there, they probably won't get a big push until there is direct competition. Launching them now seems about right, as they will have time to seep into the market.

1GB is an interesting conundrum though.

It should really not need over 1gb until it's clocked relatively high so games that would use that memory would actually be playable. The funny thing is, most of the 1gb models I've seen tested (like here on TPU) seem to either be tricked out for overclocking or have a high voltage, meaning for all intents and purposes many may break that barrier. That is not to say more performance isn't useful in non memory-bound situations, but it's still an oddity. Perhaps the less-dense memory aids in allowing higher core overclocking within the 130w TDP?

Point being, they will be nice, cheap cards considering the 2GB model with rebates in inching toward $180 and 1gb is usually $20 less for most models...but it's still kind of a niche product. Really nice budget cards that will probably teeter on impulse-buy for casual gamers and upgraders from slightly older products. Certainly a nice 560ti/6870 replacement.

Wow I don't care what price is shown in this article...
When Egg has the Sapphire 100355OCL 7850 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 (OC @ 920MHz) is $190 -AR$10; I know these will be $170'ish in no time. Heck Gigabyte here in the USA has had really aggressive pricing like the GV-R785OC-2GD for $210 -AR$10.

These 1Gb from the get go and will pound competion like:
650 Ti on GK106-200 3-SMX (of 5) with 128-bit [$160]
655 on a GK106-250 4-SMX (of 5) 128-bit [$180] par or above a 7770

I think this is a far better approach for budget builders seeking a cheaper solution on a multi-gpu platform.

This is a joke. The card won't be cheap enough to bother with.

This is done to confuse (trick) consumers and I think manuf. need sued. They muddy the market so bad with useless and cheapened versions of products (ahem intel cpus, video isn't much better) that don't cost much less, but often sacrifice a lot in performance. They put a fancier label on it, hide the 1 GB marker, and get some poor sap to buy it. He thinks he's getting a good deal. But he's not. He won't get to keep the card as long as expected b/c oops, he ran out of Vram, or cpu cache was stripped so perf sucks. Or the trick gets them to pay a lot more for 1 or 200 mhz extra that yields almost no improvement.

F 'em all.

What's cheap enough to you? :wtf:

Today the Sapphire 100355-1GOCL 7850 1Gb is at $180 -AR$10 that’s a great price. That's $100 (57%) less money against a GTX660Ti ($285 –AR$15), while approximately 20% less performance, while even GTX570's at $200 (10% more) while supplying 10% performance, but when you really look at frame times, latency, 99th percentile, and power there’s no reason to consider a GTX 570 at this time.

Need a help with the 1 GB sapphrie hd 7850

planning to get the SAPPHIRE HD 78501 GB card , i know its an awesome card for my resolution which is limited to 1336 X 768 :p but hey i am gonna change my monitor soon enough to full HD 1080p so will the 1 GB be enough ? enough to hold the all texture resolutions under the 1 Gb Vram? i will be playing almost every games but not really in ultra , though the resolution will be 1920x1080 i wont be keeping the rest into ultra , they will be like high to very high (not ultra) in this case is 1 GB SAPPHIRE HD 7850 which is clocked at 680 Mhz core clock and 1024 SP enough?

Thanks a lot..
