According to an OCWorkbench report, AMD will officially launch its second generation A-series desktop APUs on the very first day of Q4 2012, October 1. The launch will include a contingent of socket FM2 motherboards from various manufacturers, based on AMD A55, A75, and A85X chipsets. Among the A-series socket FM2 models launched on October 1, are A10-5800K, A10-5700, A8-5600K, A8-5500, Athlon X4 750K/740, A6-5400K and A4-5300. Built on the 32 nm HKMG process by Globalfoundries, AMD A-series "Trinity" APUs combine up to four x86-64 CPU cores based on the "Piledriver" micro-architecture, with a Radeon HD 7000 series GPU core, with up to 384 stream processors based on the VLIW4 architecture.

These are the desktop line. You probably mean FX Vishera CPU's.

Yes, exactly that.
Dang, I am having lots of problems with wording when writing things for the past few days.

Vishera is coming in October. Steamroller in Q1 2013, so Piledriver will be short lived, but that's O.K. Just not sure if 3rd generation Bulldozer will be Socket AM3+

i really hope it won't. this platform must be severely improved, so socket changing is crucial

...Indeed, +1. But IDK, maybe it would be better in the long run to hold off on it and do it when Excavator comes... togheter with DDR4? If not for the sheer boost that DDR4 and the way it does multi-channel bring... then at least by the fact that they won't have to do another socket 1 year later... (2013 Steamroller DDR3 socket then 2014-2015 new socket again for DDR4 Excavator!? yeah, not too cool).

Steamroller will be introduced for mobile first, later desktop and as standalone CPU even later.

FM2 should allow for compatibility so no worries there. AM3+ after Steamroller is said to be dead, but we hope it won't.

@NeoFX, maybe they will add dual controllers for Excavator like they did with Deneb, and socket backwards compatibility, after all the process should be up to par when they start making these.

AMD already said they want to push Steamroller a soon as possible to completely replace Bulldozer and Piledriver. So looks like Piledriver is going to be short lived.

NeoXF makes sense, no reason for AMD to release new socket for Steamroller unless they plan on DDR4. This is why Excavator & DDR4 and with a new socket in 2014 makes a lot of sense.

Dual Controllers sounds great but could be complex for AMD to do with this design. I think supporting AM3+ with Steamroller is good busines move for AMD, then come with new socket for Excavator.

The only problem with line of reasoning is that AMD falls further and further behind in the public perception sweepstakes. No native USB 3.0, no PCIE 3.0, and the continuance of a 800/900 chipset/IO that is coming up on three years without any substantial revision. That's a hard sell for motherboard makers....and people wonder why there's a dearth of mobo choices for AMD's flagship chipsets.

BTW: OBR posits that Vishera/Bulldozer rev2/Bulldozer rev C0/FX-8350 goes retail on 18th October.

Yeah, they are a bit behind with the chipsets... tho that might get a stopgap solution sometime next year in the form of native USB3.0, PCI-E 3.0 (not like GRAPHICS cards really need it for another 2 generations, but "COMPUTE" cards do benefit from them ATM)... and other goodies, but IDK what makes more sense, for AM3+ or for FM2? Then later, work on a triple release of new socket, new chipset (it's kind of implied) and Excavator line of CPU/APUs, maybe one that can be scaled down from the value market all the way to enthusiast, with everything in between... hopefully integrating some of that HSA hype into it as well.

18 of October? Damn, IDK if it will make it in time for Black Friday sales in my country (yeah, that is one holiday I'm sort of happy we imported from the US since last year...). Well, not like I'm gonna switch from my Ivy Bridge build plans at this point, but who knows...

I thought a late March 2013 release, days away from Q2 2013. Anyhow, AMD just makes it sound like they want to completely replace both Bulldozer & Piledriver as soon as possible.

May be a new socket, and if so I hope Steamroller is Quad-Channel IMC, not this Dual-Channel nonsense. :D

The FCU Hudson D4 chipsets do support USB 3.0 natively. It was available in FM1 socket motherboards. In fact, it was the first chipset available on a motherboard with native USB 3.0 support, so I don't see how they are behind. PCI-E 3.0 is not supported at the moment, but you just said it yourself it doesn't matter at this point.

The FCU Hudson D4 chipsets do support USB 3.0 natively. It was available in FM1 socket motherboards. In fact, it was the first chipset available on a motherboard with native USB 3.0 support, so I don't see how they are behind.

NeoXF was commenting upon my post (#14) which was in turn in reply to nt300's post regarding Steamroller and it's possible chipset...which was in turn in reply to NeoXF's post (#10) regarding same. And no, AMD's enthusiast desktop chipsets do not feature USB 3.0 natively- just FM1/FM2 sockets (Hudson D4) which you've mentioned.
PCI-E 3.0 is not supported at the moment, but you just said it yourself it doesn't matter at this point.
Might not matter to you, but I'm sure motherboard vendors would like some new feature set to amaze the masses with.
NeoXF -much like most people that frequent mainstream tech forums is probably equating PCI-E 3.0 with gaming. And no, in that respect it doesn't matter...but the PCI-E 3.0 spec applies just as readily to I/O bandwidth duties ( i.e. Thunderbolt which looks to extend PCI-E from an internal system bus to a transmission/protocol interconnect), and GPGPU:
