Dell has this week introduced no less than five new monitors, the 27-inch S2740L, the 24-inch S2440L, the 23-inch S2340L and the 21.5-inch S2240L and S2240M. These fresh displays are part of the company's 2013 S Series and feature thin bezels, Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS (S2740L, S2340L, S2240L, S2240M) or VA (S2440L) panels with 178/178 degree viewing angles, and LED backlighting.

The IPS models have a 7 ms (gray to gray) response time and a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, while the VA monitor has a 5 ms response time and a 5,000:1 contrast ratio. The S2740L packs VGA, DVI and HDMI ports (plus a 2-port USB hub) while the S2440L, S2340L and S2240L come with VGA and HDMI inputs. The S2240M has to settle for VGA and DVI. The S2740L and S2440L also have edge-to-edge glass.

The S2740L, S2440L, S2340L, S2240L and S2240M cost $399.99, $299.99, $249.99, $219.99 and $199.99, respectively. All can be found here.

Pictures are obviously photoshopped onto the screen.... the first one particularly (with the F-14's) Asus have been using that wallpaper/screenshot while advertising their laptops for many many years.

The 27" doesnt seem too bad, but I don't think 1080p at that screen size will look to great for use on a computer. The price is pretty fair, too. I'd like to read some of the reviews.

Dell should get the U2713HM out in the US. I still have not seen any information from Dell on the US release.

Sick edge to edge glass.....

27" @ 1080... FAIL!

great price though.... not for me.

Maybe the next series will come out with Edge to edge 30" with 2560x1600 :D

IPS 120hz would be nice too...just saying

Considering the resolutions they're pushing for in much smaller devices, it's ridiculous, but one also have to take the fact that you view a PC monitor for much further away you do a smartphone or tablet.

2560x1600, eew, 2560x1440 seems more fitting, with the 16:9 standard and all. Other than that agreed, but probably wishful thinking.

Good to know we have more choices, always a plus for the consumer, even if it's below expectations, anyway, what sort of cost would it be to buy a 2560x1440 monitor, probably not in this price range, and wouldn't it need a beefy gpu to run that res properly?

For the price range, i think its quite ok, with ips panel and edge to edge glass etc. Not everyone has 800$+ to spend on a monitor.

as theonedub stated, these belong to the 'S' line and not U(ultrasharp) category.. for also U2410 is in the 16:10(1900x1200) class.. most likely - Mar 2013 time frame for the U2410 replacement.. will be called U2413 according to this article

People criticizing 27" monitors with 1080p resolution most certain NEVER used one before so they are keep saying the same ol' same ol' thing over and over again. I personally use now one 42" monitor tv with 1080p and I couldn't be more happy.

That depends on how you use it and personal preferences. I assume you don't you is as a desktop monitor.

Me personally I think 20-22 inches should be 1680 x 1050, 23-25 inches 1920x1080 and above 2560 x 1440 (for desktop monitors that is, TVs is a different story).

You assume wrong, I use it as a normal desktop monitor. You also assume that a normal person will keep the same viewing distance for a 20" and a 42". ;)

Gotta say 2560x1440 at 27" is much much nicer than 1080p.

I've used a friend of mine's 27" 1080p monitor on a Lanparty, I have a 1440p monitor and I've been using since the first month they've been out the 30" Dell monitors @ 2560x1600 and I can tell you that 1080p on a screen bigger than 23.6" is an eyesore

Why use that setup? And how is it done? You can't have the TV on the desk because that would be stupid and not very nice, and if you have it a long way away it kinda defeats the point.

I'd love some pictures of how it looks.

I spent many years on the 1920x1200 monitors...and like them tremendously. My favorites we're the Dell 2407's. Although, a 27" monitor usually is out of my price range...I'm kind of digging this new business line from Samsung. I don't care if it's 1080p at 27 inches...it rotates! Not too many 27's do. Same price as the new Dell 27 inch too.

Samsung 650 Series

Worthy of a look, I'm considering three.

Best,

LC

I have four 27” monitors.

Auria EQ276W 27” 2560x1440 LED IPS

ASUS VE276Q 27" 1920X1080 TN

ASUS VE278Q 27" 1920X1080 LED TN

ASUS VK278Q 27" 1920X1080 LED TN

As well as some other assorted smaller LCD monitors. I think people forget how subjective such things can be. I personally though my Asus 1920x1080 monitors looked fantastic. In fact I still think they look great which is why I bought more then one.

It was only when I added a 2560x1440 27” monitor that I started to see how much better a higher resolution IPS monitor can be.

So in contrast, comparatively speaking, 1920x1080 on a 27” monitor isn’t ideal (subjectively) but one must first be exposed to higher resolution to make that assessment.

BTW, I bought my Auria EQ276W 27” 2560x1440 LED IPS monitor from Microcenter for $399.99 and it is a fantastic display. It comes with a 1year warranty and Microcenter has a generous return policy. No dead or stuck pixels as well as little to no light bleed. I wish I had a few more of them.

Anandtech just did a review on the Nixeus NX-VUE27 27" which seems to be the exact same monitor as the Auria EQ276W 27” but with a slightly different stand that supports height adjustments and rotation:

http://www.anandtech.com/show/6286/nixeus-27-inch-ips-monitor-for-the-masses

I’m not sure it’s a good review though because they changed their testing methodology and they experienced some build quality issues that I did not.

People criticizing 27" monitors with 1080p resolution most certain NEVER used one before so they are keep saying the same ol' same ol' thing over and over again. I personally use now one 42" monitor tv with 1080p and I couldn't be more happy.

Yeah I do the same. I have a 32" Samsung LCD/LED 1080p TV as a monitor. Compared to the Dell 2405FPW that I was using before, it has vastly superior black level and color. In fact the black level is comparable to my plasma TV. 1080p on this size is of course not ideal for desktop use, but for gaming it is fine and is even beneficial in that it doesn't demand massive GPU power like 2560x1440 or some such. I've been very happy with this for like 18 months now.

I wanted a huge gaming monitor, but wasn't going to pay $1200 for a 30" PC monitor.
