Wing Commander will come to Xbox Live Arcade

Many of us know the Wing Commander series, which included real actors and spawned a, not very successful, movie. Electronic Arts is bringing the classic space game, which pitted humans versus the cat-like Kilrathi, to the Xbox Live Arcade. The game will feature up to 16-player deathmatches and the best players can compete and climb up a ladder board ranking system. It will be quite different than the original games, "Wing Commander Arena" is purely focused on shoot-em-up combat rather than extensive exploring and missions. The game should be available this summer. There has been no word if Mark Hamil will return to the series.

It's not Wing Commander but Wing Commander Arena. This game is just a tad bit better then Asteroids which came out on console years ago.

Well as mentioned in my news post (4th sentence, starting with the 10th word), the name in the news: "Wing Comander Arena". Secondly I did mention the fact that it is "purely focusted on shoot-em-up combat" and nothing like the original game...so what is your response implying? It most certainly is not that I have made a factual mistake in my news

Still refreshing to hear that Wing Commander will be back in some form or shape

to me this looks like a classical case of "we have yet another mediocre shooter, how can we make money out of that? wait don't we have some wing commander license floating around somewhere?"

I think I had Wing Commander once. Maybe it was something else. It had a live action scene at the start with some space station spoting like hundreds of enemies and being like wtf go kill stuff. I played with a joystick. I killed stuff.

Is that Wing Commander? It was on the PC.
