Google Outs 11.6-inch Samsung Chromebook

Google announced its newest Chromebook, made by Samsung. The 11.6-incher is completely fan-less, and just 0.8" thin, weighing 1.13 kg. It is designed to give you over 6.5 hours of usage on full charge, and smooth 1080p video playback. Under its hood is a Samsung Exynos 5 dual-core ARM processor, 2 GB of RAM, and 16 GB of local flash storage, in addition to which, you get 100 GB of space on Google Drive for 2 years. The latest version of Chrome OS comes with Google Now integration (real-time sync with data on the cloud). Connectivity includes HDMI, 802.11 b/g/n, and Bluetooth. A web-cam decks the top of the screen. The new Chromebook will be available through Play Store and Best Buy for US $249.99.

I don't know anyone that owns one, and I've never seen anybody purchase one. I think they're only for the Google fanatics. I'd be VERY interested to see the sales data regarding Chromebooks.

It makes me sad that Netflix constantly says they refuse to support Linux, probably because of too few users or DRM concerns. However, they support ChromeOS, an OS that no one I know uses or have used, and through a Chrome plugin, no less.

Why not just freaking release the Chrome plugin for Netflix on Windows, Mac, and Linux, so we can get away from having to use Microsoft Silverlight on the first two, and have one working plugin across OS?

Rant aside, this does look like a decent piece of machine. But I agree that the battery life is a tad disappointing, especially given the ARM processor and SSD. I'd state the usual "1366x768 resolution sucks", but for this price range, I can't really expect better. Maybe charge an extra $50 and add 1600x900 support?

i'm a student and these things are PERFECT for the student life style.

it's not a computer for everyone but for those that use it they are absolutely amazing

I have a friend that owns a Chromebook. It's pretty neat, I played with it a bit. I'd probably buy one of these for dicking around on the interwebs.
