Just one question. How is Windows 8 running on an older laptop compared with Windows 7? I have an old Dell XPS with Windows 7 and 3GB of RAM and it works OK. Will the Win 8 be slower? The drivers also... I checked, and it seems that there are almost NO DRIVERS available for Windows 8. And for a laptop this sucks bigtime. Specially if you have a video card like nVidia GO 7900GTX...Good luck finding drivers for that!

It definitely seems to boot up faster than 7 on my Phenom II laptop and a 640GB/5400 RPM/8MB hard disk. I have no driver problems except for my PowerXPress GPU setup (HD 4250 + HD 5650) which is its own problem because of AMD's driver structure changes over the summer.

I don't see any GO 7900GTX drivers on NVIDIA's site but you can probably INF mod the 306.97 drivers as they still support all the way down to NV40.

i had to use a driver specific to Vista for the Touch Pad in 7 and Use Mobility modder for the 9800 on the last set of drivers for the desktop AGP parts

The local news is all over this OS. Can you say free advertizing? This is a very public tablet/Desk Top OS and in order to gain public approval went full on prime time news with it Local and National CNN/FOX/MSNBC! all are talking about it. This is make or break for M$!!!
M$ is in it to win it too folks not like apple! Where is the ROAD???!!!!???!!!!
If this takes off (And it will) Then M$ could put a major dent in the ipad/iPhone/Imac, And any other iProduct. This is it for M$ and they know it. If they expect to gain any thing in this economic down ward spiral we are in this is it. Do or Die now.:D;)
I hope it is hacker proof and virus proof as well. Apple is #1 in this.

nothing is hacker proof, Linux is #1 in this, and windows 8 creams the security of windows 7 by a lot but it has its down side, it really limits your freedom at times something windows 7 is far better at than windows 8... freedom to exploit and crack and do illegal things... you can do very little of those things to a certain point in windows 8, I don't mind it because its so much faster

True...

nothing is hacker proof, Linux is #1 in this, and windows 8 creams the security of windows 7 by a lot but it has its down side, it really limits your freedom at times something windows 7 is far better at than windows 8... freedom to exploit and crack and do illegal things... you can do very little of those things to a certain point in windows 8, I don't mind it because its so much faster

Windows 8 is cool and all but for those of us that have just Bought and installed Windows 7 we would have to pay MORE to make the move. Some can afford to do this some of us can not. If you can cool go for it. Windows 7 is just as good for me for the next few years maybe even through to windows 10.
It is however a major move in the tablet market and is also versatile for Desk Tops as well. But for me for now I am more than happy.

And kill switches? Ever heard of Apple iOS or Google Android? Those have kill switches and we entrust those devices to call 911 when we need them to.
I got rid of all of my android devices once I found out about that.

It is not the right of a service provider or my government to invade my property or privacy.

Perhaps all of that doesn't matter to most people as long as they continue to obtain cool, new technology...

You forgot to mention the kill switch on Sandy Bridge (and likely all future processors).

Back in those days W98 or ME were not bad, it was just you that still were learning how to turn a pc on. :)

False.

Windows Me was 5% to 25% worse than windows 98.
I wrote a comparison.

Even games such as Half Life ran slighlty worse on windows ME.

Windows 98Se was awesome in the days.

As for windows 8 its just another reason to duel boot.
Run linux as the main OS and windows 7 to play games.

I had ME on an AT machine and when I built my first ATX machine I went right back to 98SE and then moved to XP

As always people likes to over exaggerate. Actually for me worked better than Win98SE, and had no problems with drivers, apps or games also...

windows 8 rules, if you have it legitly it syncs up with facebook office, skydrive msn/windows live, without you doing anything but log in.. ive been testing it since day 1 as a free trial sorta thing, all my worries were fixed in the patches expecially the old problems with pics not opening up.
There is benefits and negatives about Windows 8. I think the negatives outweigh the positives imo.
