Microsoft Launches Free Programming Tutorial

Microsoft has launched a new website designed to encourage more people to learn basic programming. The site offers free tutorials aimed to help people with no programming experience learn how to build websites and Windows applications in Visual Studio 2005 (the Express Editions are also free to download from Microsoft). Altogether there are 45 lessons which take between 20 and 40 minutes, along with 31 short videos accompanying the service. Users can chose between two main options: Windows Development and Web Development. By progressing through the tiers, users will start off learning the basics, before moving onto move advanced programming, including .Net development techniques. You can get started by visiting the Beginner Developer Learning Center.

altho its not like their isnt WHOLE websites geared towards only programing in one langauge c++. there are hundreds if not thousands. google is great

It makes sense for microsoft to be doing this sort of thing. It could even be a way to attract some natural talent to the microsoft side

. But, hopefully they wont have a teacher who doesnt know his/her way around bugs and errors and what not.

Simply because imo & experience?

Learning to code, is a LOT like learning music for REAL (in being actually able to read music, rather than say, playing guitar via tableture for an analogous example)...

I.E.-> You understand everything you're looking @, especially when you REALLY "get into it', & also when troubleshooting or whatever, all the more for it, as well as being able to create your OWN tools!

* Trust me on that account: It does change, everything... & imo? It IS the "final evolution" of a computer user!

(IMO & in general, I think that goes like this: User -> Power User -> field tech/repairmen (in general, around A+ level) -> network tech -> network engineer -> Network Administrator -> Programmer).

I doubt that... they probably have one of their more proficient folks watching over it, etc. & probably (hopefully) teach "good habits" like using Try-Catch (.NET errtrap method) off the bat/from the get go!

That's the all new next-gen MS for you... free support services to target customers... which will help reinforce goodwill relationships between MS and the customer, and strengthen the use of the Windows platform as the developers' (even hobby developers) OS. And developers are the "trend setters" and "thought leaders" for PC enthusiasts who are the "trend setters" for PC consumer.

Building good will at the high end of the food chain will help strengthen the MS brand/OS. And it's a good idea... and is needed... as an antidote to the bad PR issues the company has had to deal with, during Balmer's piloting of the helm.

I 100% agree with you, Bonkers. It has even made me like MS a little bit more. lol. I hope this IS a sign of change in the way MS manages itself and treats it's customers.
