PNY Technologies, Inc. ("PNY") today announced the launch of a new high performance 5-Port Smart HDMI Switch with wireless remote, an ideal solution to expand the amount of HDMI ports available on an HDTV. The PNY 5-Port Smart HDMI Switch connects up to 5 HDMI devices via one HDMI port.

The new PNY 5-Port Smart HDMI Switch utilizes HDMI Smart Technology, featuring auto-switching from one device to another, LED indicators, and onboard manual switching control. The HDMI Switch is also powered to maintain superior signal quality with up to 1080p HD video playback. The included wireless remote allows for easily switching from one device to another. Users can connect multiple HDMI devices via a single HDMI output on their HDTV. The PNY 5-Port HDMI Switch easily connects to one HDMI port on an HDTV and converts to 5-HDMI inputs. Available in a matte black finish, with a sleek and slender aluminum frame of 4.38" x 3" x 1", this new HDMI Switch from PNY was designed to be a great enhancement to many of the HDTV's consumers own today.

"The PNY 5-Port Switch offers a simple solution to expand the amount of HDMI ports available on your HDTV, taking the hassle out of switching HDMI cables back and forth from one device to another," said Nicholas Mauro, senior marketing manager for PNY. "The switch provides seamless transition between multiple HDMI-enabled devices, for instant access to view the content you desire -- from your favorite show on cable, movies on your Blu-ray, websites on your PC, and even pictures from your smartphone. Consumers can upgrade their HDMI capabilities without having to upgrade their HDTV's."

Now... "smart" to me impies the following:

Autosensing when a device is plugged in to a port (I have one TV that does that and another that doesn't)

Will send a "turn on" signal and HDMI selection to the TV when a connected device is powered up and has something to deliver (I've got a Pana BD player that does that when connected to an older Sony LCD TV, put a disc in, close when the disc starts playing, it turns on the TV and switches it to the correct HDMI input via a signal to the TV, it's AWESOME!)
