NVIDIA 8600GT and 8600GTS Pictured

OCWorkbench has found some pictures and specs of NVIDIA's mainstream DirectX 10 cards, the 8600GT and the 8600GTS. The GT (pictured below on the left) is the replacement for the 7600GT and will feature the G84-300 GPU running at 540MHz and either 128MB or 256MB of 128-bit GDDR3 RAM at 1400MHz, priced between $150 and $180. The 8600GTS (below on the right) is a step up from the GT and will replace the 7900GS, using the G84-400 GPU running at 675MHz and either 256MB or 512MB of 128-bit GDDR3 RAM at 2000MHz, with a price of between $200 and $250. As reported before on techPowerUp!, these cards should be released (along with the 8500GT) on April 17th.

wow they look quite cool prices sound reasonable just have to see how much they cost and it would be pointless to have 128mb graphics memory on the 8600gt

yeah they should just make 256mb the standard. It is cool but I think Im gunna go with one of the 300$$ cards this generation either AMD or Nvidia I dunno yet, all depends on the AMD benchmarks.

Huh? A 128 bit card as a replacement for a 256 bit 7900 GS? I have a 7900 GS, It's an excellent $150 card. But 128 bit, no thanks. I think I will hold out untill we get the ATi offerings. Lets hope ATi gets them out before Crysis or I might have to go green again.

I think people are worrying too much about the memory interface being 128bit. All that really matters is how it performs. ATI has shown in previous generations that a "slower" interface can still outperform a card with a faster interface. Either way, I think this is good news.

That was previous generations though bud, were moving into larger textures and bigger resolutions these days,

who cares about memory bit length?

with memory operating at 2ghz a 128-bit bus is plenty

the 128-bit cards of this generation routinely outperform or at leats match the 256-bit cards of the last generation

I just don't understand why popular company like this decided to make these new cards 128 bit. Com'on now! look at the other specs, they're acceptable. Just this and this one little 128 bit that deserved to be 256 bit. I mean how much more would that cost them??!! Besides, look at the cost of these cards are going to cost us consumers?!! ain't cheap, is it?!!! 128 bit honestly to me, destroyed the whole value of the cards and make a completely flip of a decision from buying it.
It might saved them a couple of dollars but they'll lose much more when people like myself decide to pass.

just out of curiosity, what does your 7900GS score in 3Dmark06(default settings of course)

That cooler seems very decent. It would be better if it had a copper base. I'm guessing there are heatpipes inside the coolers though.

Btw, the S on the end of the 8600GTS i think means surpreme... basically
