Graphics Cards with DDR3 Memory See Price Hike

Prices of graphics cards with DDR3 memory are set to rise by 10-15 percent. The roughly 10 percent hike in prices of DDR3 memory chips, due to inventory-digestion, aided by reduced production from DRAM makers, is responsible for the hike. The June 2013 launch of Intel's Core "Haswell" platform could see a flurry of system upgrades, which could strain on DDR3 chip supply even further. Luckily for most DIY buyers, DDR3 memory is only used in sub-$100 graphics cards, with proliferation of GDDR5 to current-generation graphics cards around the $100 mark.

They've increased because OCZ cut its discounts. OCZ pretty much set the benchmark for SSD pricing.

You sure that's why? A lot of people don't even look to them when picking a drive anymore. Their low end drives might be cheap but their reputation is "you get what you pay for" and their high end drives and are too high end in price. That's left Samsung and Crucial to fight amongst themselves. The Crucial M4 and Samsung's 830/840s have never stopped going on sale at amazon and newegg, and have never left the top of the sales charts. You actually have to scroll down to find an OCZ drive haha. OCZ could implode tomorrow and I doubt they'd react. The reason for the overall price hold is probably related more to the fact that we're just now getting new die shrinks to the market. Drives like the M500 should drop prices quite a bit.

DDR3 RAM price increase are due to gullible consumers willing to pay a premium. If people stop buying the price will go back down to where it belongs.

I think the whole DRAM price increase smells...
Certain kits have gone up in price with a percentage of over 50%. And the only explanation you get from DRAM manufacturers is that they relocated some of their production capacity to chips for the mobile market.

I think the ultra low prices we had some time ago was a blip, and it's getting back to normal now.

The price increase is due to less production because of anticipated decrease in demand. It's just a sign that DDR4 is around the block. It's just a normal business cycle guys. Same thing happened to DDR2.

Well, it seems it's about both in the end, the article even mentions Haswell

I bought this about 6 months ago for $50:

My feelings on the prices of DDR3 for GPU or CPU...
I don't give fu~ oh look a squirrel.

I also don't care if they simply release DDR4 unless its for quad channel and it better be as fast as GPU memory so we can kiss discrete graphics goodbye.

Very low end cards are the ones with DDR3 really...or older cards. I mean the 7750 has GDDR5, so does the 650ti and those are low end.
