ASUS ROG Rampage IV Extreme Black Pictured

ASUS is working on a variant of its ROG Rampage IV Extreme motherboard for people who've had enough with the red+black color scheme. The Rampage IV Extreme Black, as the name suggests, dons a largely black appearance, with hints of dark-gray; use of red is reduced to a minimum. Components like alternate DIMM and PCIe slots use shades of gray to contrast black. It is otherwise identical to the original. The Black variant could be ASUS' competitive offering to EVGA X79 Black. Based on Intel X79 Express chipset, the ROG Rampage IV Extreme Black supports Core i7 processors in the LGA2011 package, up to 64 GB of quad-channel DDR3 memory, four-way SLI/CrossFire, and a suite of overclocker-friendly features. There's no word on pricing or availability.

I kept it disabled before I installed my fullcover, didn't change anything.

The real deal is on the VRM, this board throttles like mad when pushing over 1.5v if you are not watercooled.

My 3960X goes ape shit at 1.32V with the H100

Yeah I've found the sweet spot at 1.45v, anything over and you basically deal with an oven, even on water

Have you people heard this board when it's on? I cannot give an exact spec in terms of dB, but I can tell you from personal experience, the fan is almost silent, helps keep the chipset cool, specially with four cards installed as passive airflow in this area is basically zero (from personal experience), and as we all know, any electronic component that's cooler will last longer.

As for the fan's life span, mine is still rocking after a year, and *even* if it were to fail during its expected life span, the chipset still has a massive heatsink, so either way it's a win/win

Why keep it secret? The Lamborghini Veneno is an extremely exclusive and limited edition car that will be manufactured in very limited quantities, and yet, I can enjoy seeing pictures of it and dreaming about driving one, even though the chances of that ever happening are zero... Would you criticize Lamborghini for even acknowledging the existence of that car? Of course not... then why criticize Asus?

My pc is on an open air case and believe me, the sight of RIVE + dual Titan is like watching a supermodel to me

I like the inside of my chassis to not look like someone vomited up the rainbow. I like colors to be consistent because I do have a clear side panel on it and I do (to some extent,) care about how it looks. Granted I won't complain if I have some green or black to put with a blue, but if the inside of my case is black, white, blue, red, purple, and orange, it would look pretty messed up (not in a good way imho).

All this color stuff is just stupid. The solution is so damn simple it drives me nuts no manufacturer has had the sense to do it. Make the memory/pci-e slots alternating black shades so they won't detract but can still to told apart, and make the heatsinks black.... and then add removable faceplates to them. Many brands already do their coloration through otherwise useless faceplates so just make them swappable! Now everyone can get whatever color they want and manufacturers no longer have to worry about the sales they're losing due to colors. Include some colors with the boards like corsair does with their fan rings (yes I know it will add a few pennies of cost) and then sell the rest of the colors in a set. Everyone wins.
