There's no market for $1000 cases. Even if the manufacturer would sell a case that costs him $2000 to make for only $1000, people still would say that the price is not justified and laughable.

If people are willing to pay more for a case, then they always associate it with more features and less with quality, material, design and craftsmanship. Also, the absolute limit seems to be around $400, not more.

After having bought Coolermaster, Lian Li and Silverstone cases in the $250 - $400 range in the past, I started to dislike them more and more due to their 1 mm (or less) thin walls, high amount of plastic features, "unclean" design and other issues.

The case presented in this news here isn't that bad.

If you think that for $1k you'd rather get a Titan or a SLI combo, which is a legit thought, then you're just not the target audience of this case (or any other case in this quality region).

WTF are you talking about, scrap metal remaining from the cut-aways would be just as easly melted and reused for a smaller case or mixed with another batch to make another identical block, so no, no waste... WTF... that's not how metal works work (haha works) at all...

That price is about $600 too much. For that kind of cash, you can mod the hell out of a case and call it your own.

I'm sure the touchscreen display included accounts for a fairly large chunk of this case's price. Price seems appropriate in THAT market, cases with integrated display.

Display res is a bit low, however.

if you look at the outershell, it is a single piece. plus its 5mm thick. normal secc cabinets are made in press and the holes and stuff are stamped out. but you can only stamp out till a certain thickness and ductility of a material..

its true that the smaller parts were individual like the sidepanel, drive bays. but they are made from single blocks.

and judging from the price, it was indeed made on a CNC mill.

You can very easily punch out 5mm thick ally and anyway its probably laser cut with all holes lasered Then folded.
This os how I used to make road sogn cases and a sheet big enough for two of these would cost about 80-120 quid dependant on volume bought.

You still have to re-melt the metal and remove any impurities in the metal, this has been discussed earlier in the thread but it takes a lot more work than just re-melting it. Reprocessing scrap takes time, chemicals, and money.

And aluminum is not easily recyclable to the same grade as it was delivered in due to contamination of other metallic particles. Cleaning a melt is energy intensive and you need special chemicals for it as well. You should always go for near net shaping even with aluminum.

yes but that's just proves how stupid they are, if there is a need for this case they should have brought it in at a more reasonable price instead of milling it out of a bug ass chunk of metal, sure its cool but they just destroyed their potential market.

Does anyone care that it was taken out of one big chunk? I know I don't..
Do I think they could make a case as good or better using multiple pieces? Yes, absolutely..
The case is also ugly imo..

If they were trying to find a way to make something ridiculously over priced and incredibly hard to make, while not looking aesthetically pleasing at all.

I like, it reeks of quality, which imo not a lot of expensive "high end" cases do nowadays, simple understated quality is the way to go, not flashy looking overpriced generic rubbish.

Anyway, the sides/front are 5mm aluminium sheet that have been bent, different piece for top and bottom.

I like it. We don't see enough of these quality cases. I'm so sick of plastic and boring cases.

Touch screen on the front panel is cool and wouldn't be cheap by itself.

Even so the scrap could very easily be reused. I work at a certain steel mill, one V&M Star here in Youngstown. They supposedly produce the best steel in the world, yet it's all made of junk. Crushed cars, rusty crap, anything steel. This includes their own product that didn't pass QC which then takes a trip to the junk yard which eventually gets melted down and used again.

Aluminium is quite expensive now, so they will probs even recycle the shavings from the milling machines.

Just to clear this up... the shell of this case is made using a single Aluminum sheet and not milled from a chunk of metal (see quote from OP below)

The pics from the website show single sheet construction for the front and sides with a slide out mobo tray in the rear (top and bottom are separate pieces)

Features of the LEET chassis include:

• Unique, one-piece shell construction with a wall thickness of 0.2 inches (5mm)

Quality case- definitely
Worth the asking price- don't think so

I would rather spend $800 on a caselabs case...
