ASUS Maximus VI Formula Completes ROG LGA1150 Lineup

ASUS launched its socket LGA1150 motherboard lineup with three products in its coveted Republic of Gamers (ROG) lineup, the flagship Maximus VI Extreme, the micro-ATX Maximus VI Gene, and the mid-range Maximus VI Hero. A little earlier today, the mini-ITX Maximus VI Impact joined the team with a stunning feature-set for its size. At Computex, we pictured the last piece of the puzzle, the Maximus VI Formula. Pictured below, this ATX motherboard based on the Z87 chipset is best suited for liquid-cooled rigs with 3-way graphics cards. It borrows a piece of technology over from the TUF series, a thermal armor that covers most parts of the board. The armor makes contact with a water block that actively cools the board's CPU VRM.

The Maximus VI Formula uses an identical CPU VRM to the Maximus VI Extreme. The board draws power from a combination of 24-pin ATX and 8-pin EPS. A 4-pin ATX and Molex can be optionally connected to stabilize overclocks. The LGA1150 socket is wired to four DDR3 DIMM slots, and three PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slots (x16/NC/NC or x8/x8/NC or x8/x4/x4), it lacks the PEX8747 bridge chip of its bigger sibling. Three other PCI-Express 2.0 x1 chips make for the rest of the expansion. Connectivity on the Maximus VI Formula includes ten SATA 6 Gb/s ports, eight USB 3.0 ports, SupremeFX audio, gigabit Ethernet (Intel controller), 802.11 ac WiFi, and Bluetooth 4.0. ASUS didn't reveal launch plans.

I'd really rather not have a motherboard covered in hideous rubbish that it doesn't need. It's just a waste of materials, and it's ugly.

Fortunately, I'm not in the market for an 1150 board, and if I was, there are still plenty of others that are less gimmicky

Not a fan of the shield. That VRM plastic decoration is awful looking. It looks like they slapped some plastic on a Maximus V.

Agree, its horrible looking, just the nice black board with red bits looks good.

All the sizzle does not give any more processor performance...... Other boards will overclock as well also. I think these boards are a waste of $ unless you need every feature and do extreme overclocking with exotic cooling.

That's why I like all these boards they are all going to perform around the same so you can choice what looks good. I could see doing a very cool ME3 custom build around this board.
But personally I will be looking at the ASUS VI Gene for the right price.

...finaly they learned. Skip the premounted fittings. Just make G1/4" threads, and maby plugs in the same material as the heatsink if one don't wanna use the liquid colling option!

I don't remember where I saw it, but the motherboard does have g 1/4" threads. It stated that it had 3 different size fittings that comes with the board.

I contacted Asus back in like January to make a request for the fittings to be removable so that we could put whatever size in. I stated that g 1/4" was the standard size and I think the design engineer listened.

Yes very gimmicky. Even watercooled, the VRM's and mofset does not get hot enough to warrant watercooling. Like mentioned, this would be good for exotc cooling like dry iceor LN2 runs with high voltages...

What I think ASUS is doing here is trying hard to push innovation. Personally I like the way this board looks. Would I buy one? Well it depends on the price. I am not willing to pay more for the extra's though.
