Since its market introduction in 2009, the Staray case series from Enermax has become a long runner. Due to the simple design, the midi tower is suitable for different applications - as chassis for an office workstation as well as for an entry-level gaming rig. Many professional system builders use this Enermax case and appreciate the clear internal structure and user-friendly handling with the comfortable, screwless HDD/ODD mountings and the numerous holes and clips to route the cables efficiently. Apart from that, Staray significantly enhances the air circulation and cooling of the integrated components due to its large front mesh panel. New Edition with more Attractive Pricing
To occupy more market shares amongst professional system integrators, Enermax comes out with a very attractive pricing for the new edition of the Staray Lite. Instead of 54.90 Euro, the upcoming ECA3178-L will cost just 49.90 Euro - without sacrificing quality or functionality of the case. On the contrary, the midi tower provides the perfect basis for modern office and gaming configuration. Seven PCI slots, four ODD and six HDD bays even allow for future system upgrades. For the data transfer with external USB devices, the Staray Lite is equipped with two easy accessible ports at the front panel (1x USB 3.0, 1x USB 2.0). The comprehensive accessory kit makes the interesting offer complete: It includes amongst others a pre-installed 12cm fan at the back as well as an adapter for mounting 2.5" SSDs and HDDs.

I would buy that case for $20. Would be a pretty good case to build basic computers in, very similar to the $20 Rosewill I used for my mother-in-law's build.

This will actually be pretty spot on, at least here, for what it is. A few euros lower wouldn't hurt, but if it's sturdy I can totally see it working. The Xigmatek Asgard is the outsider that is dirt cheap and have all these things, but otherwise you don't get these things with $20 cases.

And I would pay more to have proper dust filters, because dust is a problem for me.

+20$ for features and +20$ for Enermax branding.

40$ would be fair for a case like that, if it had black interior. But now that I think of, even Ostrog is at 45$. So... Enermax is beating iself here. Then there's Precision PS05, Redline RL04, HAF 912, Carbide 200R and many more.

Yea, I wish some companies would look at woven mesh (ie. Jaguar front grills), but really fine openings just to be different.

Those weren't things from 1982, neither was a chassis painted black... outside or inside.

I think you really need to envisage this as a professional system integrators build box (SIBB) as Eneramax intends it, and perchance why they didn't give it a black interior. Build it forget it, not for show, just an understate while sophisticated outward appearance.

So why give it side panel fans, do you need them for what's more just generic SIBB with a low watt CPU and perchance discrete graphic card for multiple monitors? I suppose if you had aspirations of workstation with a mid-range Quadro 5000k conceivably, but still this generic case doesn't convey that either. I'd rather have one small vent slot down in the video card area, just less egress of noise and less dust. Other than saying it has tube grommets wouldn't regard it as any candidate for water-cooling (again SIBB). Perhaps an AIO like a Corsair Hydro H55, but you don't need pass-thru's for such systems.

If not providing a top fan mount (almost rather have that than the side panels), I really would rather they gone top mount PSU. Bottom mount PSU ingest dust and more frequent maintenance especially considering it as SIBB. Would rather had (3) 5.25" exterior bays, move the I/O up if it possibly provided for two intake fans. Hope the front I/O isn't tethered to the bezel. Also, nice they include a with 5.25"-to-3.5"/2.5"-adapter, no $20-30 case even considers providing that.

I don't know it sends mix messages. You can't have it as some entry SIBB, while saying it has some grandiose posturing as being a gamming box. Better they have two versions rather than one trying to straddle both and coming up short on both. If they really tailor them individually there might be a better justification for their asking price.
