Desktop PC monitor manufacturers may have their heads collectively stuck up their in sand, but smartphone, tablet, and notebook display panel makers don't, and that's only working to bring the fabled post-PC era upon us quicker. A case in point, ASUS' upcoming Zenbook UX301 Ultrabook, which features a brilliant WUXGA (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution on its 13.3-inch screen, covered by a 10-point multi-touch layer, under a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 panel. In its recently posted promotional video, ASUS also shed light on its feature-set, which includes a 15.5 mm-thick body (when closed), Core i7 "Haswell" processor, SonicMaster audio, and 802.11ac WLAN.

Desktop scaling pls :slap:

There is no end to this little game it seems :ohwell:

8.1 will have proper windows scaling, and I believe Asus will have something in mind too.

Its not the desktop display makers... its Microsoft. Microsoft is working to bring the post-pc era upon us. As one will be able to see when they try to use this like a PC in non-metro mode and ALL THE LEGACY APPS BREAK. Enjoy your pretty new tablet with a keyboard.

As always, just give me the fucking screen so I can attach it to a desktop.

Damn.

I love reading all the comments all over the internet that boil down to about 'give me this on the desktop' whenever a high PPI small screen is in the topic. Display resolution is limited by interface bandwidth, and although DVI technically has no bandwidth limitation, getting enough bandwidth for greater than 2560x1600 in the real world without fancy cables or a completely end-to-end controlled signal path (like Macbooks or iPads) is not trivial. So it's not coincidental that we also rarely see higher resolutions in mobile devices too.

Interface bandwidth is why desktop resolutions have not increased, it would be nice if more people realized this.

Except that this screen is 2560x1440, a high PPI has nothing to do with bandwidth at all, and DVI-D dual links (almost every DVI cable ever) can transmit this monitor's resolution with ease.

Interface bandwidth has nothing to do with why the only 2560x1440 monitors that are reasonably priced are all 27" and bought on ebay from South Korea, it would be nice if people that can't take the time to read the thread would realize this.
