At IDF, Gigabyte unveiled its latest BRIX mini-PC variants, running Core i7-4770R and Core i5-4570R processors. The two chips embed Intel's Iris Pro 5200 integrated graphics, which features 40 execution units, L4 eDRAM cache, and more than double the integrated graphics performance of a regular Core i7-4770. Sadly, to accommodate these chips, BRIX needed to stretch out, and is almost double the thickness of 2nd generation BRIX, running regular variants of Core "Haswell" processors. Gigabyte didn't use the added thickness to add more ports, either. You get room for a single 2.5-inch SATA 6 Gb/s drive, and two mini-PCIe gen 2.0 slots, one of which holds the WiFi+Bluetooth card. The BRIX with Iris Pro lineup is expected to start at $500.

$500 seems like a decent price to me. The iris intel laptop processor + power supply + case + motherboard is not cheap.

You pay the price of a laptop, just without the screen and peripherals, as it has the same components inside, and a laptop with these components would be in the 750-1k range.

Good lord, 500 dollars?

the cheapest iris pro cpu is $464 apiece, so 500 bucks is a shockingly low price.
i should also say that is the pricing for the mobile series. intel does not seem to have pricing info for the desktop models....

Why are they nearly $500 a piece? That seems insane for what is essentially an embedded processor. And remember, this system comes without RAM or a storage drive, so regardless of the overpriced CPU and custom size - that it's still 500 dollars for what is essentially a useless piece of hardware without buying an SSD and system RAM for it - is a bit outrageous in my opinion.

solidsate89, can't agree with you more.
the price isn't resonable considering performance and cost.
intel maybe insane, but i'm awake.

Yes but Intel's Iris and it's Haswell cores are the best embedded solutions on the market both in power consumption and overall performance. :rockout:
HOWEVER Your both right $700 (including other parts) for something a AMD APU will fill for half the price :banghead:
I can't "game" with it, and it might be overkill for a HTPC, and any "normal" consumer would never touch it's potential.
