Lian Li Announces PC-D600 Series Cases

Lian Li announced its PC-D600 series dual-compartment cases, which it first showcased at Computex 2013. Unlike the Corsair Air 540D, which mates a broader compartment holding the motherboard tray, with a narrower one holding the drive cages, PC-D600 holds two compartments of uniform widths, with their partition running right through the middle. The right-side component holds ten 5.25-inch drive cages, from which one is occupied by the included front-panel, and six by 5.25" to 3.5" adapters. There's room on the floor to latch 2.5-inch drives on to, the remaining room in the compartment can be used for various liquid-cooling components, including a 420 x 140 mm radiator.

Moving on to the left-side compartment, this one holds the EATX motherboard tray, which in addition, supports SSI-CEB, and of course common ATX form-factors. This compartment also holds the PSU bay, three 140 mm front intakes (which can hold on to another 420 x 140 mm radiator, if your motherboard doesn't stretch all the way); and a 120 mm rear exhaust. There are plenty of valved cable-management holes running between the two compartment. The case, as with most premium Lian Li cases, is made of aluminium. Measuring 382 mm x 525 mm x 415 mm (WxHxD), dry-weighs 9.2 kg. It's available in black (PC-D600B) and silver (PC-D600A). Lian Li didn't give out pricing.

Why aren't these cases being promoted as "designed to allow for maximum performance from the Intel Haswell processor", like virtually all the other product releases today with IDF?

Maybe people building servers would need a lot of storage but few desktop users have the need for 10x or more HDDs or 5x SSDs.

A case like this isn't JUST about storage, though it's definitely an option with all those drive bays. A case like this lets air straight through to the hardware rather than having to pull it through a drive cage. It's the same kind of direct airflow that made the Silverstone Fortress FT-02 such an amazing air-cooled case. Air comes straight in the front to the CPU and GPU(s) and then gets blown out of the back. In a "normal" case the drive cages create tons of resistance against the front intakes and there isn't any intake that directs at the CPU cooler because the 5.25" bays prevent you from installing a fan that high up on the front panel. The Corsair Air 540 has great cooling and if you swap out the stock fans for Noctuas or other quiet fans you can keep the system nearly silent as well.

There are two openings there. Lian Li's latest cases have the ability to completely plug up the top vents if you don't use them.

The D8000 (the bigger brother) is selling for about 300 euros atm.
So they better position this one under 250 (ideally 200), but who am I kidding?

that case looks like a updated Caselabs M8, (the M8 does not have 140 mm fans or dust filters) but they have lost the removable motherboard tray.

With that i mind i think the price would be 300 to 400 usd.

hardly fair to call this a copy of anything, let alone the corsair 540. If anything it is an evolution of the 343B they released back in 2007. I used one for my server back then, and it was epic at the time. Allowed me to put 24 drives in there using 6x bay adapters (each turning 3x 5.25 bays each into 4x 3.5 + 120mm intake) and had all kinds of options for the rear and top for cooling, radiators, or additional bay adapters. You can still buy it today from places like xoxide, frozencpu, or a few others will pop up on a quick search.

Still have one or two shots kicking around of the old girl. Still runs today, though at the time I was using 300/320 gb drives, last I heard it had mostly 1tbs in there.
