Gold doesn't really flake off that easy though, see: gilded old buildings. Survives acid rain and other rubbish just fine. I am pretty sure it can take a bit of distilled water.
Silver block tarnishes, and will be a pain to clean. Gold doesn't.
The plating quality depends solely on the process/operator, and going by EKs history...
