HP and Google have today announced a new Chrome OS-powered mobile solution, the Chromebook 11. Priced at $279, HP's creation weighs 2.3 pounds and features a thermal-bonded magnesium chassis, an 11.6-inch (1366 x 768) IPS display, a full size keyboard, and a battery enabling up to 6 hours of use.

The Chromebook 11 packs a Samsung Exynos 5250 dual-core processor, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of flash storage (backed by 100 GB of Google Drive cloud storage which is free for two years), a webcam, and two USB 2.0 ports.

This fresh Chromebook is bundled with a 60-day free trial of Google Play Music All Access and is set to become available today in the US (via HP Shopping, Google Play, Amazon, Best Buy) and the UK (Currys, PC World). More countries will get the Chromebook 11 in time for the holidays.

The first time I saw a Chromebook, all I could think was "wtf, no thanks I'll get an android tablet first." lol. Does anyone here have one?

I dunno...$279 for a 11.6" with an IPS panel? Load Mint or Ubuntu...I think I might like a black one.

Might have to check into this.

Best,

Ugh, they continue with the 1366x768 resolution. I used to have an 11.6" HP Brazos laptop and I hated that resolution (as well as their clickpads, but that is a different story). Please, make 1600x900 the minimum resolution for 13.6" and under laptops, lol!

Had I the money I'd get an Acer C710 in a heartbeat. These things are like netbooks, but better, and very cheap. That's an x86 CPU though, I think I'd prefer that over this HP.

You can't trust anyone's "cloud" except your own. Aside from that, for this price you could get a very nice Android tablet with a bluetooth keyboard to be more portable and longer battery life while capable of the same tasks. I just don't understand why you would purchase this over a tablet.

the funny thing is the closed "bootloader"+no x86 cpu= no fun with ubuntu i guess

move along guys nothing to see here, the chromebooks are bought by people who own android phones but want to be productive with typing stuff, if you own a desktop with google drive a good companion..

If i take the android tablett is there anything comparable to "office" ??
