ASUS Announces Adoption of NVIDIA G-SYNC Technology

I can see that the most between two of laptops that we have at home. ACER 5520G and my Compaq CQ57. Both have the same screen size and around 5-6 years apart.

ACER has really poor viewing angles where Compaq hardly changes any color under angles. I don't think LED vs CCFL has anything to do with that as it depends on the liquid crystal part and not the illumination alone...
 
You don't need a "module" to achieve this form of synchronization between GPU output and monitor output. Sounds more like another cheap Nvidia attempt to hurt AMD, like the one they did with Origins PC..

As if AMD hasn't tried some cheap attempt to hurt nvidia. oOrigin pc thing is only rumor, there is no proof nvidia had anything to do with it.

I find G-Sync rather useless. You don't replace monitors the same way as graphic cards and with such highly dependent configuration, buying an expensive monitor now can easily make it an useless configuration in 2 years time or less if you decide to go AMD path. And insisting with NVIDIA just because you have a G-Sync even if it will be crap just for the sake of G-Sync is also a crappy deal.

G-sync changes the monitors refresh rate on the fly so vertical sync tearing is eliminated. Buying a 120hz monitor you have to have gpu power to keep the game at 120fps. This pretty much eliminates that need for buying ton of gpu power or dumbing down the graphic's in game to keep fps at sync rate.
 
This tech is awesome. Unfortunately it wont take off, unless nvidia opens it up for both amd and intel, and more display manufacturers joins onboard. And price premium because of that $2 chip in monitor, cmon! :mad:

Untill then, its easier to pay +100$ more for graphics and get constant 125fps (works well with vsync) instead of 115fps (causes glitches).
 
Stop this stupid gimmick and release affordable 4K monitors already.

Yeah...me neither.I wouldn't buy nearly $1000 Asus plus G Sync while I can opt for three $190 LG IPS for eyefinity while saving nearly $450 for the second R9 290X :laugh:

Agreed, a monitor is a monitor for me. The new monitors are so awesome I feel like waiting one more year to see if theres a significant change.
 
And the guys at Nvidia really think they will sell more GPUs with this fancy toy for the rich?

One comment to add - there still are cheap, bad TN panels on the market, but they occupy the extreme low end of the monitor market (the <$60 black Fridays deals for example). If you're a careful shopper and read reviews, you can get a TN panel that rivals low end IPS panels in color accuracy for a fraction of the price.

care to make a list of quality tn monitors?

i noticed that side angles are almost without issue, while with up/down angles, when you are changing your elevation (say positioning in armchair), i noticed extreme contrast attenuation. but i havent seen all panels in the world, just a few of them.

how are you going to measure the framerate in game then? what will be the selling point of gtx 780ti, when you get the "same" looks with 760? the reviewers are going to experience hell, when recommending this or that card, when the visual experience will be the same :laugh:

Complaints about price are funny when people here have no problem spending $200+ on a regular basis on a CPU, or motherboard, or GPU, or whatever else that gets replaced a year later.

I don't get it why framerate has to be halved when framerate drops below monitor refresh and V-Sync is enabled. It's stupid by design. Yet no one botehred to fix it globaly. NVIDIA made Adaptive V-Sync and no one else gave a damn. Question is why are we still sticking to old and useless V-Sync...

Well, there ARE users who go out and buy 144hz monitors, willingly choosing to suffer TN panels, so I'm guessing there WILL be users who go out and buy these.

That said, I know I won't. I wish they'd create an adapter box that sits between your display and your GPU(s) to allow everyone to use this feature.

Even if it was opened up to AMD, do you really think AMD would use it? AMD wouldn't be able to use it with out some ppl getting pissed at them for using tech of company they hate. Same goes for things like mantle that amd makes.

I would assume your sig is a shot at nvidia cause re-badge of 700 series? I guess you missed AMD did same thing with their r6/r9 series.
 
gawd, its not enough to just pick the green team or the red team anymore......now you need specific cards within their range to access specific features.

I don't like where this is going.

Anyway, I don't think its really necessary..I don't get any noticeable tearing and stuttering since I got a 120Hz monitor and that's with NVidia and AMD graphics cards.

The only thing where this could come in handy is with the new 4K monitors, even with a highend card we're going to struggle to get 30fps so this could be worthwhile but being proprietary ruins it.

I guess AMD will release a similar gizmo and us consumers will be worse off, giving us less choice and freedom to change graphics cards because it will be tied to an expensive monitor.
 
or 290x crossfire ;)

Not long ago there was a benchmark with a 4K display and BF3. And 4 Titans only managed to hit 62 fps at a peak, wasn't even average.

So 290x Crossfire wont cut it either.

When GPU is delivering each frame in less than 16.67 ms, it gets synced to 60 fps and every frame takes 16.67 ms.
When the GPU's frame takes longer and misses the monitor's sync even by a nano-second, GPU has to wait for another 16.67 ms, effectively halving a frame rate.
This is/was all because of how CRT monitors works/worked.
So, it's not stupid by design - just last remains of a CRT monitors era technology.

About g-sync, I welcome it as a good start although this tech would be best as an evolution of a DVI.
 
If you're buying an IPS panel for multiplayer FPS gaming, then you're missing something. IPS panels are great for 2D work and for enjoying artistic games, but if you want quick response time you should really be looking at TN. This is exactly what this ASUS monitor is targeted at, so criticizing it for not being IPS is missing the targeted product segment. ASUS makes IPS monitors for you too.

I built my computer, and selected my monitors to be utalised in a variety of ways. You are going to find a short list of people who ONLY do multiplayer-FPS-gaming with their computer.

If you find that specific person, I think you are correct, they are missing something. For the
rest of us in reality, we do a lot with our computers. :)
