Hard drive industry unfazed by flash drives

Some people are worried that the superior technology in flash-based solid-state-drives (SSD's) might make a serious dent in the hard disk drive (HDD) market. However, according to market analysis firm TrendFocus, the hard drive industry is actually looking at a projected growth. Thanks to perpendicular recording technology, which reduces the cost to shove more data on a disk, the hard drive market is expected to grow an impressive $33 billion USD. The enormous growth projection is also due to the growing IT markets in India and China.

HDDs are for noobs. SSD FTW!

I'd dump my HDDs for SSDs in a second as long as SSDs are faster.

the hard drive will still be around for quite a while as ssd's are quite expenssive from what i've heard. still it would be nice to have a ssd to install an os on.

I think TrendFocus is right on this one. SSDs are still way overpriced. HDDs stand to stay on top for a long time to come, at least until the prices of the 2 become closer. I'd gladly pay an extra $40-50 to get an SSD 320GB drive, for example. As I'm sure many other enthusiasts would as well.

nobody should be getting worried about hds being replaced. the hd companies should be embrasing the new technology now and exept its time to adapt and leave magnetic storage behind for the greater good

those that adapt now will lead the industry, bring pricies down and its a win win for everyone

Until the current generation of NAND based flash drives are replaced with ones that don't wear out as quickly, I'll stick with the good old magnetic HDD.
