Plextor, a leading developer and manufacturer of high-performance digital media and storage equipment, today announced its M6 series lineup of solid-state drive solutions. The multi-form factor lineup features Plextor's next-generation 2.5" M6S and M6M mSATA SSDs, along with the introduction of two PCIe drives - the ultra-fast M6e M.2 PCI express and New HHHL PCIe card.

"We are excited to announce the new M6 series, Plextor's new generation of consumer solid-state storage products. With the addition of the M6e M.2 PCIe and SATA drives to the M6 family, Plextor now offers one of the broadest and highest-performing portfolios in the consumer space," said Darlo Perez, Director of Plextor Americas. "Plextor's latest lineup highlights our commitment to providing top-shelf quality and performance in the solid-state drive market."

In addition to the new M.2 form factor, The M6 also features the latest generation of advanced 19 nm Toggle NAND flash from Toshiba with "Adaptive Write" Plextor's next-generation proprietary firmware technology designed to maintain SSD performance under heavy workloads and throughout the life warranty of the drive. This allows for increased storage density and capacities up to 512 GB.

M6e M.2 PCIe and HHHL PCIe Card
This solution is optimized for serious users to demand the fastest speeds seen on the market today. The M6e sports the latest generation Marvell 88SS9183 flash controller with multiple cores for efficient performance during intense usage. The M6e's PCI express interface delivers maximum sequential read/write speeds of 770/625 MB per second and random read/write speeds of 105,000 and 100,000 IOPS. The M6e is automatically recognized as an AHCI device, requiring no additional drivers. When used as an ultra-fast boot disk on a system with UEFI, startup times are cut in half. The M6e comes in capacities up to 512 GB.

The entire M6e series is backed by a five-year warranty and the reassurance of Plextor's long reputation for quality, testing, and rock-solid reliability. All Plextor products feature custom in-house design, development, and manufacturing by the company's engineers.

M6S
A high-performance hard drive upgrade, the M6S 2.5-inch SATA SSD is the perfect replacement for a traditional hard drive. It features faster boot times, shorter application load times, and overall improved system performance. The M6S is available with up to 512 GB of storage, and features sequential read/write speeds of up to 520 MB and 440 MB per second, and random read/write speeds up to 94,000 and 80,000 IOPS, respectively.

M6M
The ultimate ultrabook upgrade, the M6M mSATA drive is the ideal solution for users wishing to upgrade any device that requires a solid state drive with a small footprint. The M6M features capacities up to 512 GB, with sequential read/write speeds of 520 MB and 440 MB per second, and random read/write speeds of 94,000 and 80,000 IOPS, respectively. The M6 series is expected to be available for purchase in the spring of 2014.

I have an M5 Extreme Pro (formerly the M5 Pro but they added an 'extreme' in the middle to make it sound more badass)

its a decent SSD, no problems with it yet. The 5 year warranty is definitely a bonus compared to the many other SSD manufacturers who only offer 3 years as standard.

Decent? M5 Pro is a decent SSD? if someone will point a gun to my head and let me choose on 2.5" SSD, i'll pick the M5 Pro Xtrme (No middle, but end Xtreme). The durability of this thing makes me hard.

Luckily, no one pointed a gun at me.

Each to their own but I bought one to replace a 128GB Crucial M4 after I failed to obtain a Samsung 830 Pro multiple times (this was Q2 or Q3 last year mind you so the 840's wouldnt of even been of the market yet)

good price + 5year warranty was a worthwhile gamble as plextor more or less just started rolling out SSDs. No idea if their as reliable as crucials or samsungs but I havent had a problem yet. Unfortunately Plextors SSDs dont seem very popular compared to some of the bigger names so while positive feedback can be found almost everywhere, there are still people out there that have no idea that Plextor have moved onto making SSDs. EVERYBODY seems to being singing Samsungs praises though and its hard to avoid that when asking peoples opinions and they will go with the SSD that gets the most post positive feedback.

That's the difference between educated consumers and sheeple...

The M5 Pro is also working 100% reliably here as I am certain the M6 series will do. I'm moving to PCIe with the next build so it's good to see Plextor selling these in addition to the SATA drives. For those who don't know Plextor is a very prominent name that has been in the PC industry for decades, always delivering the top of the line products, even if not as cheap as the over-hyped brands. There is a reason that certain entities hype specific products and if you do the research you'll find most of the time it always comes back to the $$$$$$$.

Jorge kinda gets what i'm talking about... it's the reliability that turns me on in this product.
I work at retail computers for a while and know the SSD market.
There's a good reason the server and workstation people like these and it's not just the speed. Their reliability in numbers is most impressive.

I am aware that the M5 favours server type workloads

Well I can live happily with either Samsung Pro or a M5pro. They are both on top tier with 5 year warranty.

Id go for the samsung 840 pro, Its faster in every test and using magician to unlock rapid mode for ram caching is quite a bonus. Obviously you dont need to if you dont wanna & you could even buy ram caching software online but rapid mode comes with the 840 so why not make use of it? you already paid for the SSD.

I have a Plextor M2 Pro 256GB which is quite a bit old and it's still a beast of an SSD. Haven't had any issues with it so far, and the speeds with it 70% full and with 32TB of writes on it are within 5% of those when it was brand new (500 MB/s read; 370 MB/s write).
Sticking with Plextor's SSDs for future upgrades :)

My initial M5 Pro Xtreme was dead on delivery, got a M5 Pro in return (couldn't be arsed to send it back again, since afaik it is basically the same SSD). Working great for almost 8 months now. I chose for it because it was on sale for € 348 (which was about € 50 cheaper than the Samsung 840 Pro at the time) and the 5 year warranty.

I reckon you mean Q2/Q3 2012 mate? Since the Samsung 840 Pro has been out since Q4 2012.

actually no i bought it on march 2013. It was a seperate buy (my mistake)

I was thinking about the time i was trying to get an 830 pro but couldnt because the retailer was out of stock and i was put in a queue and they kept messing around with their stock levels to get more hits on their website but not actually sending any SSDs out so i got my money back and bought a Sandisk Extreme which was for the same price.
