If the fans and the pump and the looping liquid of the Reserator 3 Max Dual seem like too much noise-generating movement then you might be interested in another cooling solution showcased by Zalman at CES 2014, the FX70. This new CPU cooler has no moving parts to break the silence but it does feature a 'Twist' heatsink that is supposed to maximize performance and makes use of a copper base and six beefy heatpipes. There's even support for installing two 120 mm fans.

The nickel-plated FX70 measures 110 (L) x 140 (W) x 158 (H) mm, it weighs 530 grams and is compatible with Intel LGA 2011/1366/1156/1155/1150/775 and AMD Socket FM2/FM1/AM3(+)/AM2(+) processors. A gram of ZM-STG2M thermal grease will be included in its bundle.

Not quite fanless then is it then smart ass?

Since its Zalman, the way i see it and the only way i can answer it is 'Meh'

every tower heatsink can be fanless to a certain extent. the fact that they left you mounting points for fans while promoting it as a fanless solution means that zalman are pretty sure you would need to use the fans anyway, thus defeating the idea of a fanless CPU cooler.

Out of all the companies that went under during the bad economic climate, I am truly surprised to see Zalman still in business as their portfolio contains nothing special. They have introduced a lot of product lines in the last decade only to discontinue most of them within a year or 2 silently because nobody noticed their products entering the market in the first place.

Theyve tried their hand at gaming monitors, SSDs, Soundcards, speakers, PSUs, cases. - all of which apart from 2 or 3 product lines have been completely discontinued or scaled back - they dont do SSDs anymore but they do external storage accessories like addon USB 3.0 PCMCIA expansion cards for laptops. Otherwise its mainly just heatsinks, cases, PSUs, peripherals and cooling accessories like laptop coolers.

:EDIT:

they even made a 5.1 audio amp which most likely isnt even in production anymore cuz i can only find one on sale lol

I don't recall a so called passive cooler ever not coming with a fan mounting option.

Well, to be fair, I don't think they're calling it a passive heatsink. It's just a fanless heatsink. Doesn't thermalright have a few fanless heatsinks, too?

You can turn off (via fan controller) the fan when not gaming, that's nice as an option. Silent when working, cool when needed.

Although every Heatsink can be fanless, usually the heatsink with huge spacing between fins like this is better as a fanless unit.

It's a press release, so who exactly are you calling a smart ass? it does not have any fans, you can add them as an option, less people would likely buy it without that option. ...... get more sleep!

Their way to sell it without fans HAHAHAHA.. Shame they do one of the best fan controllers too.

This thing might be actually good with all that turbulence those twisted fins produce...

The spacing between the fins implies that it was designed to be run without fans directly attached to it, but there's no mention of whether or not they expect there to be a nearby case fan. There's no need to rustle any jimmies over a few fan clips.

A truly fanless heatsink should work off of convection, which I don't think this was quite designed to use.

Also, no mention of TDP?

It's optimised for passive use, like the ad says.. of course you can add fans, so what.
