if this was offered through apple it would possibly be worth the cost but down to the fact that getting this installed will no doubt invalidate the Apple warranty makes this even less attractive than the price tag already does.

Data storage would be the only thing I could think of for a G3. The faster G4's can play HD movies, just barely, but they can play them.
