Amped Wireless, the leading manufacturer of high power, long-range wireless solutions for the home and office, today announced the availability of its REC15A High Power Compact 802.11ac Wi-Fi Range Extender. The discreet, wall-plug unit extends the signal of any standard 802.11a/b/g/n or ac Wi-Fi router by repeating, amplifying, and redistributing the signal in a new extended location, such as a far bedroom, backyard, or upstairs office.

The Amped Wireless difference starts with High Power technology. Standard Wi-Fi devices have an output power of a mere 50 milliwatts (mW). While the REC15A packs up to 500 milliwatts (mW) of Wi-Fi output power into a compact, elegant design - to eliminate dead spots and attain more range. With four total amplifiers and a high gain, dual band antenna, the REC15A provides up to 5,000 sq. ft. of extended coverage. In addition, the REC15A features ultra-fast 802.11ac Wi-Fi technology and simultaneously repeats both 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz Wi-Fi signals.

"As more devices like tablets, smartphones, laptops and routers supporting the new 802.11ac Wi-Fi standard become available the need for faster, longer range Wi-Fi continues to grow," stated Jason Owen, CEO of Amped Wireless. "With the introduction of the REC15A, Amped remains at the forefront of Wi-Fi extending solutions by offering another high performance more affordable option for extending AC Wi-Fi coverage."

At a mere three inches tall by five inches wide, the REC15A can be discreetly installed in any outlet. The REC15A can also be set up wirelessly, using a tablet or laptop, in minutes. Just simply plug it into an outlet, access the web menu and select a single or dual band network to extend. It's compatible with all brands of standard Wi-Fi routers and Internet service provider gateways. One additional wired port is built into the REC15A for connecting PCs, TVs, Blu-ray players, game consoles and any other network device. The REC15A is equipped with top security features including parental controls like restricted access for certain users, time of day schedules to limit the network's availability, and adjustable Wi-Fi coverage settings to reel in the signal strength.

All Amped Wireless products include the Wi-Fi Analytics Tool App, free for Android and Windows devices to help users analyze and optimize their networks. The app allows users to fine tune their network to get the maximum speed and coverage from their device. All Amped products are also backed by industry leading, U.S.-based, in-house Elite Technical Support provided by Amped Concierges. The Elite Support team is ready for your calls, emails, and chats 7 days a week.

The REC15A has a retail price of $99.99 and is available for order from the Amped Wireless Store today. It will be available at major brick and mortar retailers and online retailers within the next two weeks. I dunno about this but wall sockets usually come in pairs - I can see this would obstruct one socket when it is plugged in.

You might need to run a short power extension cable which kinda defeats the while idea of 'wireless' because it creates more clutter plus this range extender will obstruct the sockets on the power extension too so you might be limited to what you can do,

You can attempt to obscure and hide it some place where it might not been seen or where stuff is plugged into very often (or even at all) but that might mean bad signal as I hear AC isnt so great at penetrating walls

Amped Wireless, the leading manufacturer of high power, long-range wireless solutions for the home and office,

I think Ubiquiti is a pretty big name, but I suppose they specialize more in outdoor equipment. They're excellent for indoor as well though.

What Amped doesn't mention is that all wireless repeaters will cut your wireless throughput in half since it retransmits everything (which takes airtime).
