Um, whatever? Really? Yes. Let me see, another 6GB monstrosity that will be irrelevant in a couple months. BUY ME!!! NO REALLY!! BUY ME!! I HAVE 6GB of DDR5 MEMORY!!!!

Um, can anybody tell me why this is even remotely useful? OH and yea, 4k...it's a 780. Bottleneck, anybody?

Will the GPU maker's ever not go full-on-butt-ugly, on this is the greatest thing ever?

Sorry, a LITTLE tired of the hoopla!

Maybe you should check the link I provided in post #2
Ti maybe May or June. 780 in next few weeks hoping. - Jacob Freeman (EVGA)
Maybe the 780 was chosen first to rejuvenate sales of the older model. Not sure if anyone would be buying a Titan Black for gaming unless they were using 4K or 3D surround (that would use 3+GB of framebuffer) - in which case the price difference might not be much of a financial hurdle even if a 6GB 780 Ti was available now.

Um, can anybody tell me why this is even remotely useful?

People said the same thing about cards over 1GB and look where we are now. What changed? Battlefield 3 came, a crappy console gen finally died, and PC gaming once again gained some ground.

It is never a good idea to question the relevance of something like this. You'll always eat your words later.

But it is totally ok to question the relevance of things like this on low end GPUs because obviously, they are using the high VRAM to sell more crappy chips to people who don't know better.

pretty much any resolution over 1080p, aka 1440p+ 27inch monitors or even 3 monitor surrounds benefit from the extra ram. ATM if you use 1920x1080/1200 its not needed.

Because SLI doesn't stack the memory. If you have 2 way or 3 way SLI the GPU bottle neck is gone and you'll be running out of VRAM.

Titanfall already requires 3gb or higher cards to run insane textures, and the xbone has only been out a couple months. Once you start putting together high end SLI systems, cards like these will just make sense when you otherwise would have 5000-8000 processing cores and still only have 2-3gb of VRAM.

Arma 3 will take 2.4GB, and yeah games are starting to need it even at lower resolutions.

Heck, even older Skyrim, with all the texture mods I have has been hitting 2.85GB vram usage on my 3GB 780 @1080p. I only just got it 6 months ago and I already feel like it's irrelevant! So yeah, on a fast card like the 780, I can definately see the use in having 6GB vram.

Well i am sure i can get it at even more if i used over 200% scaling. One reason that put me of the 780 as i use my cards for a good time before buying a new one

Actually this is a smart move to sell 780+6GB at $549 as it will reel in a lot more sales than a 780Ti+6GB at $749. I can only imagine that Titan Black sales are abysmal at $999 presently.

Well they no doubt made bundles of cash selling the Tesla and Quadro variants of the GK110, so any sales on top with the cheaper Titan Black are really gonna be a bonus.

Funny thing is that Tinafall dont even look good in todays standards. Far from game that needs that much vram even with insane textures. I game in 1600p with 780 at 1167mhz and never had real problem with lack of vram and 780 is very fast at those clocks, above 290x and ties with 780Ti. I can see why ARMA 3 needs more vram, SSAA and nice graphics in general but TitanFall is a joke..
780 is still not powerful enough to run settings that need more than 3gb but I agree that 6gb will be good thing for SLi systems.. 780 is best buy enthusiast GPU and I doubt it sells bad..

Such a waste, you hardly can see the difference on TitanFall, the engine is ancient. Not only that, the game is too fast for you to enjoy the textures

game developers will be use your 6 GB entirely soon or at least a majority of that...

They push forward for the memory because of the future of games.
