More Details of Radeon R9 295X2 Emerge

More details of AMD's upcoming dual-GPU graphics cards based on the "Hawaii" silicon emerged, in the run up to its April 8 launch. That's right, AMD plans to launch the card exactly one week from now. The card will bear the name Radeon R9 295X2, after all. The $3,000 pricing set by NVIDIA for its GTX TITAN-Z graphics card will be taken advantage of AMD, which will splurge on stuff such as a metal briefcase to ship the card in (with two combi-locks no less!), possibly high-quality (expensive) cooler shroud materials, and more. The card will be cooled by an air+liquid hybrid cooling solution, much like the ASUS ROG ARES 2. A factory-fitted (AIO) liquid cooling loop will handle the two 250W GPUs, while a fan-heatsink will cool the memory, VRM, and PCIe bridge chip. AMD will not chase down the ludicrous 12 GB memory amount of GTX TITAN-Z despite its wider memory bus, and will instead equip it with 8 GB (4 GB per GPU). And lastly, the card will have a total of five display outputs, including four mini-DP and one dual-link DVI-D (digital-only).

I look forward to seeing this on sale for £700 when they have stocks left that nobody is left to buy, because it gets out performed by next gens flagship gpu for almost half the price.

All this is doing is driving the price up for the higher performance segement.

ATI has a higher TDP ceiling by using water so they can clock both gpu dies higher.

Likely (being a flagship model) that the price will stay static unless competition from a competitor (read Nvidia) force an official drop in MSRP. The usual M.O. is that the top end cards stay at or near their vendor pricing, and if/when they don't sell they suddenly go out of stock, and all of a sudden they show up in secondary/tertiary geographic distribution territories.. ofc, if they are limited edition then it wouldn't surprise to see the vendor quietly dispose of them via eBay, Aliexpress or similar to avoid brand dilution by specialing them out in a primary market if their position becomes obsolete.
I'm pretty sure that Asus doesn't sell every limited edition Ares/Mars it makes, but they generally don't end up selling for cents on the dollar either when they get superceded.

True but that makes it even more niche imo for those who use different types of adapters a lot of people use dvi or hdmi

I see no issue. Clean and concise, no nonsense bits plastered all over it. Radiator looks a little thin for my liking, must be high FPI. It's dual slot at least. I'm curious about temps with that rad and only the one fan. Besides that it looks perfectly presentable.

Here is question, what the Titan Z just the first shot by Nvidia to get AMD to respond just so Nvidia will toss bad say 780x2 ot 780tix2 card just after all this for less then what AMD wants?

I like it better than the TITAN but they should have the tubes closer together and they should have used angle fittings(with G1/4 threads) where the tubes come out because the way they are the card will be a nightmare to mount in smaller cases and test benches. Also I would prefer it if the aluminum went all the way into the corners.

the cooler looks like a asetek design based on the rubber tubing I see and the rad based on the amd astek for my 9590 which is a decent cooler for 120mm so I wouldn't be surprised if this has similar performance to that especially if it allows push pull fan set up like the amd 9590 cooler. im defiantly interested in this card if the price is right since I am due for a gpu upgrade and was leaning towards 2 290x over dual 780gtx im itching for the specs

Nah, mDP makes sense because it supports active adapters (aka. doesn't require a RAMDAC clock from the GPU.) If you have just DVI, you need extra RAMDAC clocks in order to drive more ports. mDP ports are also smaller so you can cram more of them on a single card. All in all, I think the benefits of mDP greatly outweigh the (potential) costs. There is also nothing stopping you from getting a mDP to DVI or HDMI adapter if you need one.

i dont like the AIO cooler.. better build your own WC or go full AIR fan. I dont know, it will probably perfom well but at the esthetique cost..

why not just underclock chip a bit and sell it a good price
and be moar an better solution then crossfire two card.

Nah, ditch DVI as well. No RAMDAC on the GPU would be awesome in my opinion. I would have no problem with just mDP on a GPU.
