AMD's third generation Eyefinity multi-display technology, will feature the ability to mix and match resolutions. AMD pioneered multi-display with Eyefinity, which allows you to span a single display head across 3 to 6 physical displays. Up until now, the technology required all participating displays in a setup to run at the same resolution, often limited by that of the lowest-resolution display. Soon, that limitation will be removed, letting you mix displays with different native resolutions, in three new modes. The first one will be called "Fit mode," in which vertical pixel counts will be kept constant among the displays. The next is "Expand mode," in which the display head assumes the vertical pixel count of the larger (central) display for the flanking displays, creating "unavailable" areas. The third one is "Fill mode," in which the head fills out the native resolutions of the displays, with no "unavailable" areas. The resulting display head, thus, won't be a quadrilateral. AMD plans to launch Eyefinity 3.0 with Catalyst 14.6, due for June 2014.

so what happen if for example you have 290X and win 7?

It would work fine, only 8.0 is being dropped. So the drivers now only support Windows 7/8.1 instead of 7/8.0/8.1. it surprises me because Windows 8.0 still has a large market share, about 6.4% of the OS market, which is even higher than that of Windows 8.1 (even though it is a free upgrade).

Nothing. AMD wants all Windows 8.0 users to upgrade to Windows 8.1, since Microsoft killed updates for 8.0.

No, it does not support PLP.

Nothing. AMD wants all Windows 8.0 users to upgrade to Windows 8.1, since Microsoft killed updates for 8.0.

Microsoft is still supporting and updating Windows 8.0 through January 12, 2016. I think you're confusing this with Microsoft having ended support for Windows 8.1 without Update 1 in May 2014.

Is there anyone with Windows 8.0 who will NOT upgrade to 8.1?

In my opinion the big news is Eyefinity. IF I understand it right, you buy 2 old monitors with $100 maybe for both of them and you are ready to go. You don't have a great Eyefinity set up, with 3 identical fullhd monitors with slim bezels of course, but you do have the benefits of three monitors with almost minimum cost. Also those monitors will possibly have lower resolutions which will be easier for the card to drive them than 3 fullhd monitors that will skyrocket the resolution from 1920X1080 to 5760X1080 (two 1280X1024 monitors for example with a fullhd monitor in the middle will give a resolution of 3968X1024).

Looks a bit stupid with both sides blurred out and the center crystal clear.

It should fade in nicely outwards from the center screen.

If you turn the camera instead of your head when using eyefinity and really only use those two monitors on the side for your peripheral view the sharpness doesn't matter a lot anyway. Your peripheral vision has nowhere near the sharpness of the center of your view you wouldn't notice it at all(unless you keep turning our head).

As a matter of fact, I think it would be very nice to have the option of only rendering the center monitor at full resolution, because that would improve framerates vastly and you most probably won't notice the difference anyway. Iirc microsoft was already planning on doing something similar with their Xbox combined with a projector projecting around your main screen for peripheral vision.

Edit: found the source of the xbox thingy, its called project Illumiroom

I wish this was more of a thing, I get a ton of bad fisheye distortion in games and this would help to alleviate that problem, if only it was supported more.

so it really does look like that. when they say you can combine monitors with different res i was thinking the look (for example texture) on other monitor would be weird because despite the difference of resolution between the monitor the image still need to "connected" as if the game was rendered in single display.

I have been waiting for this feature to have full support for awhile now because I was curious about mixing and matching monitors. Right now I run 3 1920x1080p monitors but im grabbing a 4k monitor soon and I was at the point I was just going to completely get rid of 2 of them and just keep one for a secondary monitor and use a 4k for most everything. Now I was to see what will happen if I mix and match a 4k in the middle with 2 1080p monitors on the sides. Means I can have both UHD and eyefinity, now I just hope it works well :p

And 2560x1080 should be 2560 x 1600
As it is now in the picture, the sizes don't make sense, because they are not common or most probably don't even exist.

The first yes, should say 1920x1200 for a 5120x1200 view. But the second one is correct as 2560x1080 is gaining popularity - there's over 25 models available today. That's up from the ~5 models available last year.
