Seems a nice time to upgrade to either 5820K or 5930K, their prices aren't bad at all, althought the most excitting about it is thet new thermal design of these CPUs which makes it worth.

I am still stuck on what motherboard I want this round. I was really hoping for another MSI Big Bang edition because of the feature set and the just awesome heatsinks.

But I am now stuck between the MSI Gaming, Lightning, and the Asus Rog board.

Whatever board that is black(mostly) with a great review I will consider, but my first nod will be geared towards MSI. I am going for a black and white theme this build so I need to keep the colors down to a T. However, having an accent of red couldn't hurt I guess.

Will if the release date of August 29th is accurate then one would think the stores do indeed have stock of the processors, motherboards and DDR4 RAM.

Personally I think I'll end up waiting until October or possibly November before buying though,......unless there is some crazy time sensitive deal that will save me a ton of cash.

You may have a point there, but I'm hoping there's at least a minor sale going on for this labor day weekend.

question .

I only see gigabyte,asrock and msi releaseing boards. Am i correct to assume this for the 5820k only, at 2133mhz, or will you be able to use the higher 2800 ddr4.
just hoping they release 5960x also when 5820k comes out.

what graphic cards will handle/compatable w/ haswell,and handle 4k graphics of all the new games and the new simm coming from RSI.
or are still in the wait and see mode.

That is an Corsair Obsidian 750D with xspc ex360 rad@the top and I believe a Alphacool monsta or nexxxos 360...I believe it's 60mm, if so then it's the nexxxos. I did the mod to
the odd drive cage, and had it painted. Not done yet so pricing would be inconclusive, a rough estimate I would say about 350. That's just with what you see there.

Intel's i7 processors are by far the best processors in the world. A combination of pure speed, power consumption, and die size blows AMD out of the water (and I am an AMD fan). My issue with Intel is that every time they release a new processor, regardless of a die size change, they change the socket. People complain about how AMD has been stuck on the same socket for 2 years... Yes it's because they can't afford to move forward quiet yet and aren't ready with new processors... But I happen to like sticking with the same socket for a long period of time. I wish both companies would try to do that for once.

lilhasselhoffer, your estimate of ~$400 to ~$500 turned out to be quite accurate with respect to my estimate of ~$300. Still I am interested in what actual street prices will be. Often prices are inflated beyond MSRP for newly released hardware so that is a possibility. However, I have grown accustomed to lower then usual prices for Intel CPUs at Microcenter. So I'm guessing the Core i7 5820K could be as low as ~$350 USD there possibly less.

That is to say that processors like the 4930K, 4790K and 4790 cost about ~$80 and ~$60 less respectively at Microcenter then they do at places like Newegg for example.

So that is to say I am cautiously optimistic about seeing lower then MSRP on the Core i7 5820K and low enough to be significant,.......at least at Microcenter. If not then the 5930K is looking that much more attractive.

I've just gotten an e-mail advertisement from Micro Center, with $299.99 for a 5820k. Within a few weeks of release the price has hit the $299.99 mark. Assuming you've got the money for new RAM and a new board, there seems to be very little reason to go with the 4790k.

I'd have assumed monetary considerations would have been far greater between the 5820k and 4790k, considering the former was just released. Guess I get to eat my words, and those near a Micro Center get to have a great entry into the enthusiast level boards.

Still ends up being an expensive platform in the end, but you get alot more bang than going with a standard Z97 4790K platform. I went ahead though and got myself the 5930K and the MSI Gaming 9 X99S board along with some corsair Vengeance Ram at 2666 (Sadly it was the last bit in stock at the time).

Luckily I bought the ram before the release just wished I had dished out the extra 20 for the faster modules, but I guess no biggie. Still debating on pairing the 5930k and my msi x99 sli but if I go out and buy 2 more 290s or the 295x2 like I am debating on doing then my second build is screwed.
