NVIDIA rolled out its latest GeForce "Game Ready" driver, version 347.52 WHQL. The driver comes with optimizations and SLI profiles for "Evolve." It also gives you GPU- and game-specific performance improvements for the GTX 980, GTX 970, and GTX 960, across 1080p, 1440p, and 4K resolutions. These performance improvements are for 347.52 WHQL, compared to its immediate predecessor, the 347.25 WHQL, and isn't general to the R347 drivers. In addition, SLI profiles are added or updated for "Dying Light," "Saint's Row: Gat Out of Hell," "Total War: Attila," "Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn," etc. The PhysX system software is updated to version 9.14.0702. A few security updates to the driver files, were also added.

not really, people will still buy it.

that says nothing about the state of the card so in no way is a rebuttal to the statement you are replying to.

No way it can Fix the falsified,Gimped 970 card. that card is screwed.

Correction to the law of HumanSmoke:

Every thread now should contain at least 10% about the GTX970 VRAM "issue" + 10% about Titan.

Nvidia's marketing team is SO good. I wonder if they do it on purpose, but one way or another NV always manages to be the most discussed topic on every tech forum out there.

And the story continues... so when will nvidia be forced to change all the packaging saying 3.5Gb instead of 4? :D

On the other hand, ATI (currently AMD) used to make great videocards (and by the way is still making good ones), e.g. ATI's Radeon 9700Pro and 9800Pro/XT beat the Geforce FX 5800/5900 series hands down :rockout:(especially in Half Life 2, if I remembered it correctly).

Of course, I am unhappy that Nvidia falsifies/hide the true specs of the GTX 970, and thus lower the resale value of the videocard as many see this as a big defect. On the other hand, a GTX 970 with full memory bandwith and the full 4 GB memory would be more expensive, i.e. closer to the price point of a GTX 980. Wish the "limitation" of the GTX 970 is just software based, so you can unlocked the card to its full potential. I still remember that I could unlock my Geforce 6800 vanilla to a Geforce 6800GT (in terms of shaders and clocks), good old times:D!

The success of a card is ultimately determined by how well it sells (at least to the maker) and it will still sell well regardless. The 970 is a gimped card, the 780 is a gimped card, the 670 was a gimped card, etc. They are all gimped in their own ways. The 970 more gimped it seems, but still performs well regardless.

i think not... nvidia's GTX 7XX series owners are forgotten....

@Prima.Vera Kepler has already had most if not all the optimizations for that architecture they could do. And now Maxwell is their full time baby, so makes far more sense to optimize that architecture now.

Lots of GPUs have different limitations. GTX 660 and 660Ti got half the performance for half the memory bank (1GB fast, 1 GB half speed), GTX Titan Black compared to GTX 780Ti has half the average bandwidth to each memory chip if all 6 GB are used, since it has twice the amount of memory chips on the same bus. In theory Nvidia did a good choice by offering 3.5 GB full speed + 512 MB low speed on GTX 970, but what they failed was finetuning the internal memory reallocation algorithm. When they get it all fixed no gamer will notice the speed difference, since no frame rendering will require all 4 GB in a single frame.

But the 970 did not come out till around a year or so later so WTF. So yes it should be better but it should have 4GB usable too.

I will agree again that the 970 is a dam good card how ever in my case some of my games go over that 3.5GB.

As long as any game pushes it above 3500MB it will use the messed up 512MB and slideshow/stutter will start.

I'm talking about the new games such as Far Cry 4 or Dragon Age 3, which have really crappy optimization for 7xx, specially under Win 7.
