XIGMATEK Announces Dark Knight II CPU Cooler

XIGMATEK announced the Dark Knight II SD1483 CPU cooler. Available in frosty-white and matte-black, this aluminium fin-stack heatsink features a ceramic coating on its fins and heat pipes, which increases surface area for heat dissipation. Measuring 120 (W) x 50 (D) x 159 (H) mm, the heatsink features a copper base, from which three 8 mm thick heat pipes, which make direct contact with the CPU, convey heat to the aluminium fin stack, which is then ventilated by the included 140 mm XIGMATEK XAF LED fan, which offers an air-flow of 90.3 CFM, with a maximum noise output of 18 dBA. XIGMATEK didn't announce pricing or availability.

This is confusing, because I'm pretty sure my Fiance's rig has a Dark Knight II. Perhaps this should be the IIa to account for the new fan?

So, withdraw product "A" from market, wait, then release as product "A" but with additional color and new fan, and everyone will think product "A" is new! Have I got that right?

Dark Knight- Night Hawk II maybe???

This is a different build than the last DK.... does away with the old style fan mounts for example. Also, the Xig Gaia II? should be the same cooler minus the fancy coating.

I'm in for one when they are available!

No, it's a Dark Knight II (Nighthawk Edition)...same stealth coating, etc. They just added a white one, and changed the mounts and fan.

I'm not saying it's a bad cooler, it's actually really good, but they should have differentiated the name more. It's almost as if they are hoping no one will be around to remember the previous one.

It's unclear why Xigmatek discontinued the Aegir SD128264 in some if not all markets, but it's an excellent cooler (confirmed in independent testing) and they should continue to offer it, IMO.

At the moment they appear to be trying to hit specific price points and sell their newer style fans.

Ok, my confusion on the name was because of the Mis-naming of it by Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233029), so you're correct on the name, Norton. It is listed as Dark Knight on their product page (http://www.xigmatek.com/product.php?type=specification&action=preview&productid=162). However, reading through the features and specifications there, and then looking at the information listed above: same 3 8mm heatpipes, same ceramic thermal coating, same fin design, and....same cooler dimensions as what is listed above. This all lends to a confusing product.

I'm willing to bet when reviews come out this will perform better simply because of the better fan, in which case I may just buy the replacement fan for cheaper, since we already have the Dark Knight.

I like the zigmatek fans I got.. got 5 and 1 replaced the junky 212 evo fan that gave out after like 2 months.

Me, too. The DK and Megahalems were some of my all time favs, had at least a couple of each. If I wasn't using water in my main PC and could get off my mITX fixation, I would definitely have one of them still

there's too many of these tower type coolers. I'm still using the same Corsair one I bought YEARS ago for an AM2+ CPU with my AM3+ system (Corsair don't even make air coolers anymore!)

Hopefully they improved even further on the cooling capability.

The 8mm pipes are great but the big selling point was the fan. It had a monster of a fan for its time and still does pushing 4.1mmH20 at reasonable noise levels. Same fan came with the Dark Knight Night Hawk Edition and made it popular and a favorite on delta testing. The white version had a much quieter fan with half the AP power.

Similar reason why people liked the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO. Not so much the 6mm pipes which are so common but the fan that provided 2.7mm h20 at higher noise levels then Xigmatek Dark Knight but was so much easier to find and less.

This new version doesn't have that beefy of a fan but its quiet.

Interesting, it does look like it's easily replaceable though. Although it would suck to swap basically a third of what you bought from the get-go.

Fans are easy to replace just that fan was and is great for a 120mm. This new one is 140mm Fan 90.3CFM / 1.08 mmH2O should be enough for mostly any cpu. Its when people overclock that the better fans come into play.

Which i would absolutely do, my H100 leaked on my ram which i had to replace and switched back to my dark knight, My next build is probably going to be the next AMD that support DDR4 so i would want to overclock as they can get up to 5GHz easily.
