Intel Delays 14 nm "Skylake" Desktop CPU Launch

Intel reportedly delayed the launch of its next-generation "Skylake" desktop CPUs to August 2015, from its usual schedule of launching new CPUs each Q2. Skylake is Intel's next-generation CPU architecture, built on the company's new 14 nanometer silicon fab process. Sources in the motherboard industry based out of Taiwan tell DigiTimes that launch of Skylake and its companion 10-series chipset, and hence they won't be able to show their latest products at this year's Computex trade-show, in June. Intel is either tweaking production of its new chips, or is waiting for the market to digest inventories of its current-generation products.

Skylake engineering samples underperformed at undesirable TDP's, and Skylake was set to overlap with the Broadwell launch. I thought it was already delayed to October though. Probably read the wrong article.

I think Skylake models that use the proprietary RAM were releasing 2015. Skylake that uses normal DDR4 memory isn't coming until 2016.

There's a great chance Intel will skip Broadwell on the desktop altogether. It just makes little to no sense, considering that Skylake is around the corner.

They already said that. Only X99 (workstations) and servers are getting Broadwell. There's been too many problems with the 14nm process. I fear the brakes have been slammed on Moore's Law.

All mobo players have rolled out bios updates for 5th intel cpu generation support. I don't think they will skip it if they have problems with Skylake TDP.

I also thought this was already part of the plan but I must have misread or heard wrong.

I was still under the impression there was going to be a desktop variant of the Broadwell CPU for LGA 1150? I thought they had just said there were not going to be any lower variants of the Broadwell chips.

Learn to read news and PR. The keywords there were Skylake, August 2015, 10-Series Chipset. Done, got everything of note out of it.

Yeah, I though I had read that there wouldn't be any Celeron/Pentium/i3 variants, but there was still going to be i5/i7 Broadwells on 1150.
