ASUS today announced that all 9 Series motherboards offer support for 5th-generation Intel Core processors, assuring a quick, safe, and smooth upgrade - immediately. The easy-to-use ASUS USB BIOS Flashback or BIOS Updater tools enable users to update the UEFI BIOS quickly, unleashing the great performance of the latest high-performance CPUs.

ASUS 9 Series motherboards that include the renowned ASUS USB BIOS Flashback feature enable users to apply UEFI BIOS updates with incredible ease. This innovative tool downloads the latest BIOS to a USB flash drive, enabling users to update the award-winning ASUS UEFI BIOS quickly and easily. The motherboard does not even need to have a CPU or DRAM modules in place: users can simply connect the power supply, plug in their USB drive, press the USB BIOS Flashback or Reset button and then sit back and wait - there's nothing else to do.

For other ASUS 9 Series motherboards the necessary UEFI BIOS update takes just one click in an easy-to-use Windows-based BIOS updater application, which can be downloaded free of charge from the ASUS website.

Users keen to take advantage of the power of the latest 5th-generation Intel Core processors can visit the ASUS website, at www.asus.com, and download the relevant UEFI BIOS version today. The following ASUS 9 Series motherboards can be updated for compatibility with the latest Intel CPUs:

ASUS BIOS updates are available immediately worldwide.

Saw my Maximus VII Hero had a new BIOS update the other day for support for the new 5th gen Intel CPU's coming.. Was nice to see, now it'll be even nicer to see how these new 5th gen's perform.

If you're expecting much these days, you might be suprised.
If you know what are the differences between Sandy, ivy, and haswell, broadwell is not going to be any suprise for you.

I just checked last week and this news seems a week old. (Maybe Asus waited to have the full range ready to update) Anyway, those new 5th-gen processors are mobile chips... unless there are more to come.
Here the "fastest" (cough) range: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/processors/core/core-i7-processor.html

They are supposed to be releasing the Broadwell-K desktop variants Q2/Q3.. 65 W TDP.

And many ppl seem to think Broadwell on a Z87 will be as simple as a BIOS update in most cases. Similar to the Devils Canyon and Z87 dealio. We'll see I guess..

Asus is actually adding more then 5th gen Intel Processor support in these latest BIOS updates. Apparently some newer Z97 motherboards are being released with USB 3.1 support built in. Such boards will be released with BIOS to fully support USB 3.1. However, Asus is also releasing two USB 3.1 add-in cards of which existing Z97 motherboards will presumably need a BIOS update to function properly.

ASUS’ USB 3.1 motherboard line-up features new motherboards with two USB 3.1 ports installed on the PCB itself, and existing motherboards with a ASUS USB 3.1 PCIE add-in cards bundled in the package. Both are identified by the /USB3.1 suffix.

For those wanting to upgrade an existing system with USB 3.1 – that PCIE add-in card will also be available separately for compatible motherboards. Note: a BIOS update is sometimes required – see the press release for more details.

New ASUS USB 3.1 motherboards:
  • Rampage V Extreme/U3.1 (bundled with add-in Type-A card)
  • X99-Deluxe/U3.1 (bundled with add-in Type-A card)
  • X99-Pro/USB3.1
  • X99-A/USB3.1 (Transfer Express)
  • X99-A/USB3.1
  • X99-E WS/USB3.1
  • Z97-Deluxe/USB3.1
  • Z97-Pro(Wi-Fi ac)/USB3.1
  • Z97-A/USB3.1
  • Z97-E/USB3.1
  • Z97-K/USB3.1
  • Sabertooth Z97 Mark 1/USB3.1
  • B85M-G Plus/USB3.1
  • B85-Plus/USB3.1

http://rog.asus.com/403332015/asus-...est-and-most-comprehensive-usb-3-1-solutions/

So chances are that your latest BIOS update will look like this:

1.Support 5th-Generation Intel Core Processors
2.Support ASUS USB 3.1 PCIE add-on card

These bios updates on X99 are bugged the windows boot timer is way off and flashing your bios with your RAID connect will kill it.

I'm sure I'll be happy with my two Haswell Refresh CPUs. Doubt there's going to be much of an improvement (as is usually the case the past few years).

You'll have to check your individual motherboard's support page for the BIOS to see if it's available.
