NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti Launch Imminent

NVIDIA is ready with a new high-end graphics card that will be slotted between the GeForce GTX 980 and the GeForce GTX TITAN-X, in its product stack. The GeForce GTX 980 Ti, as it's being called, will launch within the next couple of weeks, and will be based on the company's GM200 silicon. The core-configuration of this chip remains unknown, but it is rumored to feature 6 GB of GDDR5 memory, half that of the GTX TITAN-X, across its 384-bit wide memory bus.

Back in March, it was reported that NVIDIA will launch this SKU only after Summer. An early June launch suggests that either NVIDIA is spooked about AMD's Radeon R9 390X and its fancy-named sibling, which are expected to launch in the third week of June, and wants to siphon off high-end GPU sales as gamers and enthusiasts wrap up their Summer builds/upgrades, to settle down for the season's big game launches; or the company is confident of its performance, and really wants the GTX 980 Ti to appear on performance graphs, in reviews of AMD's new products.

According to Videocardz.com the review samples have been sent out. I'm eagerly awaiting W1zzard's review as this will almost certainly be my next card.

Cool, cannot wait as I want to see the full feature stack of this card. I am mostly curious if this is a full chip or a slightly cut down chip from the Titan-X.

This is great news! I am going to upgrade early July and I was afraid this card would come out after, but now it seems both AMDs 300 series and the 980Ti will come out before then, so I can make an informed decision

At the end of the month would be the last time for 28 nm since the 20 nm AMD also at the door, or it will be enough for a more normal price in nvidia is difficult to say. $ 550 would be through rates.

It's nice to have another gpu war after 1 year of flat water. I'm just sad that the R9 390x won't really be another HD 4870...sigh...that was a good time. Ahead of the competition with the use of the GDDR5, and crazy cheap. That thing was nearly as fast as the gtx 280 and half the price. Will we ever see another flagship gpu at 250 bucks ?

A Titan X is about 23% faster overall than a 980 according to the benchmarks here. If the 980 Ti comes in at around 20% faster than a 980 for $100 more than a 980 and $400 less than a Titan X then I would say there is definitely room for it in the stack.

And of course nVidia forgets how many are still going to wait because they want to see what AMD does. Appearing spooked like this only shows weakness that AMD does have NV's number and that they won't be able to compete come mid june.

I doubt Nvidia have been busy sitting around counting all their money, besides they have basically had to the market to themselves since September, with the culling of AMD's prices doing little to stop the slide towards Nv.

I know everyone is waiting for AM's response. but lets be honest here. you have a new AMD card that is going to do 4K at 40 FPS. yet it doesnt have the memory! 4GB is only 4gb it doesnt matter how fast it is lol

if they do put 8GB on the card it will half the speed of the link, and make it 300gb/sec anyway meaning its a futile choice and is just a waste of cash for bragging rights.
Nvidia's 980, TI and Titan are the correct choices here . NO ONE SHOULD BE BUYING A 970. they royally screwed up here, and we as consumers should make them pay. id love to see $100 970's because no one is buying them and thats all they are worth frankly

THe 980 is the correct choice for 2015!
until HBM v2 comes out which can handle 600gb/sec quad stack HBM so 4-8-12-16 gb RAM
and we have comparable choice.
even if AMD comes with HBM we have no yardstick and no benchmark. so the Pascal vs AMD offering in late 2016 (amd will be late again) will be a better implementation of HBM and a safer one.
Think Xbox 360 warranty issues! 1billion in write downs!!

nope. there is no L2 or memory controller disabled. just the raster engine itself. so there is unbiased access to all the L2 and SM's. So no.
