Intel Phasing Out Celeron D 331 and 336 processors

Intel has sent a notification to system vendors that it has begun removing the Celeron D 331 and 336 models from its product portfolio. The two Celeron D processors are based on the 90nm Prescott core and Intel's Netburst architecture. The 331 (2.66GHz 256KB L2 Cache) and 336 (2.8GHz 256KB L2 Cache) are currently offered as the two cheapest processors in the firm's desktop processor portfolio. Both CPUs are selling for a tray price of $34 and $37 respectively. According to Intel's product change notification, the Celeron D 331 and 336 will be available for order until September 7 of this year, while the last shipment is scheduled for May 9, 2008.

I hate Celerons.

My dad's Celly system crashed maybe a month ago, and it seemed to be a motherboard problem. After a couple hours of messing with settings, re-seating everything, resetting CMOS (I still think the battery needed replaced), I resorted to installing his components in my old AthlonXP 2800+ rig. Basically his hard drive and optical drives attached to my old CPU, motherboard, and RAM.

Kinda glad he's running a non-Celly now.

the trick with celerons is that you devide the clock by 1000, ands thats really how fast it is.

I for one will vouch for that! Celeron D 347 3.06 @ 4.4Ghz ~48% overclock!!

the trick with celerons is that you devide the clock by 1000, ands thats really how fast it is.

I doubt that, the one I currently am using runs a little faster (with overclock) than a p4 2.6 northwood. at stock it runs about a p4 2.2.

Yes, the Cedar Mill ones are even better than these Prescotts at it too, and perform better thanks to finally having enough L2 to be useful. Mine runs at 4.68GHz with the stock cooler! It gets hot though, so 4.2Ghz is what it runs at 24/7 with the stock cooler. I kind of want to get something cheap to replace the stock cooler to see if I can break the 200MHz FSB mark.

intel dropping two older 90nm process celerons doesn't mean the celeron name is dead, and it is just a name, what it represents will always be there so why celebrate?

it is like celebrated world peace simply because they decided to not call war war anymore.

The newer celerons are pretty decent imho, not that shit since they are so easy to overclock.
