Toshiba Announces World's First 12.5-Inch 4K Ultra HD Convertible Laptop

Toshiba's Digital Products Division (DPD), a division of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., today announced the Satellite Radius 12, a compact 2-in-1 laptop designed with expert technologies to best meet the performance demands of today and tomorrow. The world's first 12.5-inch convertible laptop with a 4K Ultra HD display, the Satellite Radius 12 features top-of-the-line screen and sound quality, a sleek, lightweight design and 6th Gen Intel Core processors that deliver maximum mobile performance and excellent battery life.

Facial Authentication with Windows Hello
The Satellite Radius 12 is one of the first small-screen PC's to enable facial authentication with Windows Hello, powered by an on-board infrared camera. Windows Hello enables customers to log in to the laptop instantaneously using only their face.

Highest Resolution, Most Color-accurate Laptop Display Available
The Satellite Radius 12 can be configured with a brilliant 12.5-inch diagonal IPS touchscreen display with a native 4K Ultra HD (3840 x 2160) resolution that yields four times as many pixels as a Full HD display. Designed with color accuracy in mind, the wide gamut RGB display supports 100% Adobe RGB color space reproduction, making it an ideal choice for mobile content creators.

Lab tested and certified by the color experts at Technicolor, this laptop's display also meets the same strict standards for color fidelity used in Hollywood movies.

High on Performance, Low on Power
The laptops are powered by 6th Gen Intel Core processors, which deliver significantly improved computing performance, enhanced graphics and better power efficiency than the previous generation, resulting in a long battery life rating. The new processor offers powerful performance for streaming video, offering life-like HD video conferencing using popular apps like Google Hangouts and Skype, while its increased graphics performance is ideal for Xbox gaming on Windows 10 with DirectX 12 support.

Designed for travel, the device weighs just 2.9 pounds4 with a slim 0.6-inch profile and includes a 360-degree precision hinge that offers smooth transitions between its five viewing modes - Laptop, Tablet, Tabletop, Presentation and Audience. The laptop features a Brushed Metal Finish in Carbon Gray and includes an LED backlit keyboard.

Availability
The Satellite Radius 12 will be available for purchase in the U.S. starting in the fourth quarter of 2015.

Not that I need 4K in a laptop, especially such a small one, but … FINALLY things are improving.

It’s going to be 2016 and the “standard” for laptop screens is still 1366x768. WHY!?

Even if you try to rationalize it, as a cost saving measure, it makes no sense. Seeing as you can buy an ultra cheapo phone/tablet and still get a 300PPI screen. Really makes me wonder, how much of a savings difference there is between a 1366 and 1920 screen, if any.

10 does have pretty decent scaling for 4k though so its not as bad as it was on 8.1 (Or as buggy).

Eh, still a bit small to have a 4k screen though.

would you like a / between the 2 terms? lots of... store listings do it, '1080p FHD', it attaches both terms since not everyone that uses or knows one will know about the other, eventually people will subconsciously memorize... i would also like 3840x2160 to be remembered

To bad the battery only holds 30 mins or less because of the screen. Personally I think that even 1080p is too much for a 12" screen, based on previous experience, but hey, who am I to judge the peons choices?

A simple 1080p or 1080i could tell a lot about a monitor/tv with a simple number and a letter.

2160p or 2160i is as simple and intuitive as it gets. if they was to add a 144Hz info on along with the resolution they might as-well call it 2160f, or if they want to point a variable frame-rate (the vesa one) call it 2160v.

I feel that everyone that sells me those products with those ridiculous terms, assume that every consumer is stupid.

HD = 720p = 1280x720
QHD = 4 x 720p = 2560x1440
Ultra-HD = 3840x2160

Some people get the UHD mixed up with the Cinema 4096x2160.

Next up is FUHD which will be 7680x4320. Some people will refer to that as 8K.

yes exactly, consumers ARE stupid & they like buzzwords, it's a feedback loop of companies trying to cater to it & people running away from numbers (also cool exciting words rather than just another larger number)
