As with two previous product launches from Shuttle, the new DH170 becomes a member of the product family of Skylake-compatible Mini-PCs. This means there are three models in different case designs available now for the new generation of Intel Core processors - one model in classic cube format, one versatile 3-litre machine and today the DH170 debuts with a particularly compact case volume of 1.3-litre.
"This type of case is also suitable for locations where conditions are tough, but high computing performance is still required," says Tom Seiffert, Head of Marketing & PR at Shuttle Computer Handels GmbH. "The 43 mm flat steel case offers maximum protection from mechanical stresses and can also cope with ambient temperatures of up to 50 °C."
The DH170 barebone, which is based on the Intel H170 chipset, supports all sixth-generation Intel Celeron, Pentium and Core processors for socket LGA1151 (up to 65 Watt of TDP). Combined with 16 GB DDR3L RAM in dual-channel mode and a PCIe M.2-SSD, it is capable of remarkable speeds. The machine measures a mere 19 x 16.5 x 4.3 cm (DWH) and has a footprint not much bigger than half a sheet of A4 paper.
In addition, the DH170 can accommodate a 2.5" drive with SATA 6 Gbit/s and has a Mini-PCI-Express expansion slot that can be fitted with e.g.
a WLAN module. Relevant openings for WLAN antennas are already provided. Outside connections comprise of a card reader, 2x Intel Gigabit Ethernet, 4x USB 3.0, 4x USB 2.0, 2x DisplayPort, 1x HDMI, 2x RS-232 and, of course, audio.
As with the first two LGA1151 models from Shuttle, the DH170 also supports parallel operation of high-resolution 4K displays at 60 Hz (DP) and 30 Hz (HDMI). For this scenario Core i3 processors or higher are recommendable. At the back of the machine is a four-pin connector for remote power-on (e.g. in the case of fixed installation in an awkward position). If required, a jumper on the motherboard can put the machine in always-on mode so that it automatically starts up as soon as the operating voltage is applied.
The DH170 can also be operated in various positions, e.g. sitting flat on a desk or installed on suitable surfaces or monitors with the included VESA mount. Optional accessories consist of a WLAN kit (WLN-S) and a VGA adapter (PVG01). The recommended retail price for the Shuttle DH170 Barebone is EUR 244.00 (ex VAT). At the time of publication of this press release the specified model is available from specialist retailers Europe-wide
