i wont be getting one of these, i bought an 8800gts320, intentionaly as a temporary purchase till these came out (expecting them to be a gtx killer) but looks like im staying with it a while longer yet

depends what you put face to face with the HD2900XT, a 8800GTX is definately not in the same price range but performances comes at a price.

having said that though, if i didnt have this 8800, then i would buy it from komplett, the extra memory over a gts 320 may prove handy (sure 320's perform as well as other 512 meg cards, but thats because they have a 320bit memory controller as opposed to 7900/x19x0's having 256bit memory, these new ones have 512 bit memory controllers)

however i have just noticed that scan has some 640meg 8800gts's for £215 now...

WTF I don’t get why people are not happy that the 2900 XT is not faster then a GTX because its “NOT SUPOST TO BE” This card is meant to basically compete with the 8800 GTS not the GTX I think some people need to re read the title, it says 2900xt NOT 2900xtx. ATI/AMD did there job the 2900 xt is faster then a GTS so I don’t see why anyone would have any complaints not only does it beat it has better image quality. I'm not a fan boy I buy whatever is the best price vs performance, so far ATI has done it with the 2900xt I will buy one vary soon

The impression I got from the review done buy Techpowerup up on this card made me think it was better then the 8800GTS but they must have been comparing it to the 8800GTS 320 mb card not the 640mb. That’s amazing the 8800GTS 640mb not only beats it but does it so much more efficiently with less power draw and less heat, I retract any Previous statement I made about the 2900xt being faster.

dont speak too soon, a driver update or two and it could be up there with it/a bit faster, still you'd think they've had time to get it competitive by now

Well even if some driver updates makes the 2900xt as fast as the 8800GTS 640 I would still rather have the GTS just because it produces less heat and is way more efficient. I didn’t realize the 2900xt was such a power sucking monster until I seen the review at Hardocp.com. So really unless there are some major driver updates that impact the performance enough were it beats the 8800GTS buy a good margin that would be the only way I would buy a 2900xt. I’ll be buying a new card in the late summer some time so will see.
