AMD made an update to its desktop APU lineup, with the addition of the A10-7890K. This socket FM2+ chip, based on the "Kaveri" Refresh silicon, replaces the A10-7870K as the fastest APU you can buy. The chip's maximum (Turbo Core) frequency is upped to 4.30 GHz, compared to the 4.20 GHz on the A10-7870K. The nominal clock speed remains unchanged, it's rumored to be 4.00 GHz, but it wouldn't surprise us if AMD kept it at 3.90 GHz. AMD could bundle its recently demoed Wraith air-cooler with this chip, which promises significantly lower noise levels than the older reference cooler. In addition to the A10-7890K, AMD announced that it is working with its motherboard partners to launch a fresh wave of socket FM2+ and AM3+ boards that feature modern connectivity, such as USB 3.1 type-C and type-A, and M.2 PCIe slots.

New Am3+ boards o_O. I will say the two I see so far look really nice. They even have upgradable Op-Amps and metal shields around the Pci-e slots. Also the board looks pretty nice I may have to get one just to try it out. http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5655#ov

what you linked is AM3+ ... this New APU is FM2+.

I was looking at the board you linked and did not see A Dvi-d / HDMI or Displayport .. .. did not know they were still making AM3+ boards.

That's a 2.3% improvement, but only for turbo mode. Colour me unimpressed.

Well it's nice to see some new AM3+ boards with the usb 3.1 and m.2 slots but I don't use any of those things nor do I intend to do so. I just hope that with the new boards some new chips may come out as well and be at least 30% faster than their current flagship CPU.

Not that I'm complaining. I'm happy with what I got now. It gets the job done.

The AMD FX (AM3+) platforms do not support PCIe 3.0 natively at all, hence, AMD’s partners will have to either implement an M.2 connector using four PCIe 2.0 ports (which would limit bandwidth to 2000 MB/s), or use a PCIe switch to “convert” eight PCIe 2.0 lanes into four PCIe 3.0 lanes. The AMD A-series (FM2+) processors support PCIe 3.0 x16 and hence can support an M.2 port with PCIe 3.0 x4 bandwidth, but in that case graphics cards will have to work in PCIe 3.0 x8 mode. In general, it is possible to add USB 3.1 and M.2 to current-generation AM3+ and FM2+ platforms, but that comes at a cost.

Wow, another pointless release by amd...

They should instead drop the prices all around... Like 60€ for 860K (drop the 840 sku alltogether) and 75€ for 7650K (thats pretty much the only fm2+ parts that make any sense).

I'm sure that for that kind of price, they would sell nicely :)))

At this point, I am mostly just waiting to see some APU's with DDR4 support (AM4) because that is what we really need. If we got some medium range priced laptops (5-600) with DDR4 support at like 2400+ minimum I feel APU's could really shine on the mobile platform. That is where in my book APU's really could shine.

Hopefully this will be a precursor to seeing the A10-7800 at an $80 price soon. Have an old SFF chassis I'd like to give a descent bump without spending near $175. $40 for some DDR3-2133 2x4Gb, while a AMD A78 for under $50 and stay well within my 250W PSU.

I STILL don't see dual LAN ports
on these "new" AM3+ boards...
or any current AMD boards for
that matter

Where do you even see the A10-7800 for sale outside of eBay???

This...
I have a 7850k that does 4.3Ghz with 4.5Ghz turbo at stock volts with 2400Mhz DDR3 memory and the IGP @900Mhz
And it's actually pretty good but it's limited by the memory speed...
You really see significant increases in performance going from 1866Mhz to 2133Mhz and just as significant an improvement from 2133Mhz to 2400Mhz..

I'd really like to see a bigger gfx core with HBM....that'd totally give me a chubby
I doubt we'll see something like that anytime soon..as in the next 2 years.

I still see them though haven't been looking lately and now appear to not as prolific. You might be right, these A10-7800 may well be tailing off in the market, should've done this when it was down to $105 back end of Nov. There's the A8-7600 65W APU I could run, however have a hankering for a 512 shader part. I'm fine with Kaveri, though might this may speak to a Carrizo Desktop Version soon?

What a massive disappointment the am2+ upgrade path has been, all they do is raise the clock speed by 0.1mhz once a year

In 2014 when I bought a 7850k I thought I would be upgrading once a year and it would gain performance but 2 years and 2 releases later and the best they can do is a piss poor over clock any numbty could do in the bios with an original chip

They don't give anyone reason to upgrade

Neither vendor does, really. The only reason I "upgraded" (I lost MHz) is that the motherboard for my 4.8GHz 2500k died. And at that, I am guessing a chunk of the increase came from my DDR3 changing from CL9-1600 to CL10-2400 (50% more bandwidth + 25% less latency), and the video card. My AMD desktops are holding fine (A10-6700, 980BE, 565 unlocked to quad core) -- but I didn't overclock them at all, unlike the 2500k system.

I am a little surprised they bothered to release an additional cpu though at this point.

What I linked is a newly released Am3+ board. Which the op mentions that Amd is working with mobo partners on new boards.

Decent looking board but it isn't released yet is it?
