Synology Launches the RT1900ac Router in the US Market

Today, Synology Inc. - a manufacturer of network attached storage (NAS) - launched its first router, the RT1900ac, in the U.S. market. The highly anticipated device has already earned several awards and recognitions globally, including a CES 2016 Innovation Awards Honoree (computer accessories category) and a Computex 2015 Gold Award.

Been using this since November last year. Really like this router. The UI is amazing. A little weak on the 5GHz band but other than that everything is fine.
Those who use Synology NAS units are going to like this router
I still haven't had the time to explore all this router has to offer.

Did they fix the firmware issues they had?
Apparently early on it was really unstable, but it looks like they've released a couple of updates since then.

I would very much like to see aTechpowerup review of the Synology RT1900AC too. However, the product has been out presumably since October / November (Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand, Australia / Europe) of 2015 so there are some reviews out already. The US Canada and China release was listed only as "Early 2016" on the Synology product page.

I've been waiting on the Synology RT1900AC since I first heard about it. There have been a number of sellers of the RT1900AC on Amazon, eBay and other locations but I took this to be opertunistic middle man sellers inflating the price.

I preordered from Newegg (not a sub seller) about a week ago but if it doesn't ship soon I will drop the order since even that Newegg preorder price was well above what it should be (~$189).

I'd say Synology has some fairly well speced NAS devices such as the DS3615xs which has 12 HDD bays. It also has at least 4 NICs if I recall correctly. The missing component would be the router functionailty and the wireless functionailty. In theory, adding a wireless card and the SRM (Synology Router Manager) functionailty (which could be added as a package) is all that is needed.

Sure,...

I was just saying that while there isn't a Synology NAS product that currently has the SRM software and Wireless functionailty that one or two existing models might be made to function as if it did. Assuming Synology wanted to allow it. Then again Synology may come up with a new model that does function this way although it should be fairly trivial for Synology to do this either way.

Just speculating really,.....

wow they are late with the US release on this one! Ugly late... Ha ha! Seems like a decent router though. I'd like to test it. I know it's Broadcom AC1900 chips in it as well, those are quite stable and nice.

Just got a notice that my order for the RT1900AC just went through at the MSRP of ~$149.99. Hopefully I'll have it in a few days because I preordered it and Newegg doesn't charge unless they have stock to ship.

It did tend to crash under heavy streaming, but I'm assuming they can fix it with firmware updates. I use a Netgear R8000 for my home router.

I see,....

The Netgear R8000 does look good on paper but it seems to come in at about ~$259 USD, which, is a good deal more then the ~$149.99 MSRP of the Synology RT1900AC. I'd say these two products probably weren't intended to be in direct competition.

While not always true, I'm guessing you can get a better class of product if you pay more.
