GIGABYTE Technology, a leading creator of high performance products for IT professionals and an associate member of the Intel Internet of Things Solutions Alliance, showcases today its new embedded computer solution, the EL-20 series, for the opening of the Embedded World trade show in Nuremberg, Germany (booth no.2-453, Hall 2).

Designed in partnership with Intel for the Intel IoT Gateway program, the EL-20 series comes in 3 variants based on different models of the new Intel SoC processors based on the Airmont architecture and the tri-gate 14nm process. These System on a Chip multi-core processors are designed to drive both computing and graphics performance in embedded scenarios that are particularly sensitive to cost and energy consumption. With a maximum power envelope of just 6W, these processors are an ideal solution to drive processing and graphics performance in industrial computing environments.

The EL-20 products embeds those processors on a high durability motherboard based on the Ultra-compact Form Factor, itself installed within a fanless, industrial grade aluminium case. With a total size of only 141 x 108 x 27 millimeters, the EL-20 feature a large choice of ports and connectivity for its size, offering to its users a highly flexible IoT Gateway solution that will excel at its core purpose: bridging the data output of legacy edge systems with cloud-based analytics infrastructures.

EL-20 Series Features
  • 2 x SO-DIMM slots, up to 16GB of 1600MHz DDR3L memory
  • Dual GbE LAN ports
  • Pre-installed dual band WiFi 802.11ac & Bluetooth 4.0 module

Keep em affordable (<$200, though <$150 preferrable) and if they run pfSense on them I'd be interested! Though I guess it would depend on what NIC chipset they're using and if pfS can support the N3xxx series...I need to look into that.

If they worked with Intel on this and this device's main function is a networking gateway then why oh why did they put crappy Realtek LAN chips in it.

Also, (and I could be wrong but) I think Realtek chips generally use more CPU cycles so why would use it with a relatively weak CPU?

Does PfSense have a problems with Realtek stuff?

Edit: Note to self - fully read previous posts before rant.
