MSI Launches New GeForce GTX 950 Graphics Cards with 75W Board Power

excuse me? i can clearly read v2 on the white label there

so either the website that did the photos went to the trouble of replacing the label themselves or msi done screwed them (and is trying to screw me again)

LOL, I literally laughing out loud reading your post. Seriously dude, read the label again, that's GTX 960, NOT 950 :laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:
 
Basically for Maxwell 2 cards, you can make them of any TDP you want. I could even turn my GTX 980 into a super low power graphic card. If I change its BIOS to run at lets say max 850 MHz core with Boost up to 1GHz, limit TDP to I don't know, 120W and that's that. Or even lower.

Sure, but you couldn't market as a GTX980 then. The lowest base clock speed allowed is 1126MHz. Selling a card as a GTX980 that is clocked lower than that at 3D load would open themselves up to massive lawsuits.
 
I'd call it GTX 975+1/2 :D
 
I would like a single slot version of this one... it is possible for sure.

Single Slot is not a problem.
It will get a little bit hot but that's nothing compared to that crazy solutions like GTX460 which was TDP 150W.
There are just not enough customer to buy one.


There are 2 Limitations that prevent that:
- There wouldn't be space for the 4 connectors to support the broad range of customers.:
1xDVI-I, 1xDVI-D, 1xHDMI, 1 DP-Port -> decide which one of the 3 you really need.
- The Cooler mounting needs to be adapted from the old Versions , that costs money and time.
Yes not much but it's different to the cheap plastic bling bling style.
You have to use about >850g copper and Aluminium for that amount of heat when considering the broad range of customers usage.
Wasted enough time testing GPUs till I found out that the first test for single slot good/bad Design is a weighing scale. ^^


Can't bring that Risk to the share holders except a company request a batch in single slot. ^^

And the other one is that Nvidia just doesn't like them as always.
They could prevent their sell of Quadro Cards which are singel Slot or whatever marketing mumbo jumbo they currently have.

If done correctly that is an entire non-issue. I don't think graphics card manufactures should even still be including bulky DVI connectors. 2xHDMI and 2xDisplayport is all you need, and that will fit in a single slot design easily. Include a passive HDMI -> DVI adapter for anyone that wants to use DVI, and job done. If someone really needs VGA, they can buy an active DP -> VGA adapter themselves.

Not really, nVidia has been using the same hole spacing for a while now. You can probably take one of the single slot 750 heatsinks and slap it on this card and it would work no problem.

The old 8800 GT had a 125W TDP and used a single slot cooler. I wish we could see something like that, instead of having huge dual slot coolers on sub-100W cards.
