It's not just about the antennas, but yes, in general, larger external antennas can help boost the range. Do remember that Wi-Fi antennas (unless they're directional) have a doughnut like shape, hence why the router manufacturers often suggest that you put two at 45 degree angle to get good coverage.

Too many things influence Wi-Fi signals though, but sadly Amped rarely live up to their claims and their extra amplifiers also don't seem to do much when their routers are being tested. I suggest having a look at SmallNetBuilder and you'll see that many other manufacturers are producing far superior routers.

Bigger antennas definitely help. I did the mistake of buying my last router with internal one's..... it's still a good router, but I would like to have the options to buy some extended antennas from Ebay and slap them on it.

15000 sq ft sounds big, but transfromed to m^2 its less than 1400, and a circle with that area is Root(1400/pi) = 21 meters, so the signal only travels a bit over 20 meters from the AP?

Yeah...69 feet.
sqrt(15000/pi) = 69.0988 feet radius

That is pretty far for 802.11ac assuming that number means full bandwidth. Most wireless radios will fall off quite a bit that far away.
