GIGABYTE Announces the X99P-SLI Motherboard with Thunderbolt 3

In the run-up to Intel's big Core i7 "Broadwell-E" launch, GIGABYTE announced its latest socket LGA2011-3 motherboard, the X99P-SLI. Positioned in the company's "mainline" brand, the board is built in the ATX form-factor, and draws power from a combination of 24-pin ATX and 8-pin EPS power connectors. The CPU socket is wired to eight DDR4 DIMM slots, supporting up to 128 GB of quad-channel DDR4 memory; and four PCI-Express 3.0 x16 connectors (x16/NC/x16/NC or x16/NC/x8/x8 or x8/x8/x8/x8, depending on how they're populated, on CPUs with full-featured PCIe root-complexes).

The star-attractions here are its 40 Gb/s Thunderbolt 3 port, and two 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 type-A ports. The Thunderbolt port features a DisplayPort passthrough, letting you wire your discrete graphics card's DisplayPort output through the board's Thunderbolt port. Storage connectivity includes ten SATA 6 Gb/s ports, one 32 Gb/s M.2 slot with NVMe boot support, and one SATA-Express 10 Gb/s port. 10-channel AMP-Up! onboard audio, with a 115 dBA SNR CODEC, EMI shielding, ground-layer isolation, audio-grade capacitors, and an OPAMP; and an Intel-driven gigabit Ethernet interface, make for the rest of it.

Too bad the M.2 slot is too slow for use with the Samsung 950 Pro M.2 drives as i was somewhat interested in this board before i saw the speed on the M.2 slot.

20 Gb/s is too slow and the Asus X99 Sabertooth has a 32 Gb/s M.2 slot.
So why cant Gigabyte have boards with the same speeds?

Still I personally don't spend much time looking at the back of my case so one extra cable doesn't mean much to me. Still I probably wouldnt want to pony up for the cost of Thunderbolt cables and hardware anyway so,.....

Those cables are for the Display requirement for Thunderbolt 3.0. Since X99 CPUs don't have integrated GPUs like Core i series on Z170 motherboards, you need to input the video from your discrete GPU for the TB3 controller.

It was a typo in this article (which has been corrected) It's actually PCi-E 3.0 4x (32gb/s). According to GIGABYTE's website and other sources it's 32Gb/s (infact it's GBT's first 32gb/s M.2 slot on X99).

Yeah i would also ask for an M2 ssd ,Man just read the manual and them pci-e slots are labeled 1-4-5-2-6-3 ,In Sli/Crossfire Slots 1/2 and 2 shares lanes with oh here just read this

Them cables are for wireless video signals,You can send 4 video signals to 4 monitors with one main system,They all connect with Thunderbolt as daisy chain.,Linus Tech Tips new home server use it.Look up his video of him installing the rack mounted systems.
