NVIDIA and Samsung have agreed to settle all pending intellectual property litigation between the two companies, NVIDIA announced today. The agreement will lead to the immediate dismissal of all pending IP litigation in U.S. district courts, the U.S. International Trade Commission and the U.S. Patent Office between the companies. The settlement includes the licensing of a small number of patents by each company to the other, but no broad cross-licensing of patents or other compensation. Further details of the agreement are not being disclosed.

Atleast someone brought GPU Nazi to their knees. It was stupid of nVidia to file those IP infringement cases and then whine like a baby when FTC also threw cases out of door.

Samsung is a chip manufacturing monster (inc. NAND). The last thing NVIDIA needed is to get in trouble with them

It's not personal mate, just business.
Andy Grove regularly asked they legal department to find a company to sue. He figured if they are being paid, then they may as well be doing something.

Both Samsung and NVIDIA have been in plenty of legal entanglements and you don't know what the settlement was between the companies. If NVIDIA gets access to SAMSUNG fabs and other manufacturing technologies in future as a result of no ongoing litigation, then they may view that as a win. If Samsung could potentially lure NVIDIA away from TSMC then they may see that as a win as well.

It's not personal or about bringing anyone to their knees, it's just business.

Equating Nvidia to the Nazi's is just retarded. Especially when it's a case against the corporate monster and general bad guy Samsung.

I know for Samsung getting a new client for fab is going to be a win(although from recent rumours nVidia is still sticking with TSMC) but I referring to whole fiasco done by nVidia after FTC threw out litigation against Samsung and ITC ruled in favour of Samsung. I am pretty sure one of the outcomes is going to be the top end GPUs will be using HBM2 from Samsung.

Isn't it time you started to realize that no one is clean and good in the industry? "GPU Nazi"? Intel must be Satan itself, then, because I'm having a hard time coming up with a historical figure surpassing Hitler and his gang in "evilness".

Punching above their weight and getting served the consequences may be a mistake that Nvidia made, but it's not one that's going to cost them their business. Big deal. Corporations don't hold grudges because they would all be out of business if they did. The only result that I see is Nvidia and Samsung carrying on as they always have.

Admit defeat to the one who holds gigantic manufacturing lines for HBM2 and GDDR5.
Poor NVIDIA, how will they survive with their pathetic market share and losses every quarter?

As has already been noted, it is business. It was in the 1960's when IBM kept Honeywell, Burroughs, and the other seven dwarfs out of the market, it was in 1970's when Intel, Texas Instruments, Motorola, and IBM kept the smaller fabless companies on a leash, and it is business now. Nvidia saw a slim opportunity to gain license royalties for existing patents and took it. The fact that they have a cross-license deal now in place tends to indicate that the strategy wasn't a complete waste of time...and may just set a precedent for a judgement in their case against Qualcomm (that was initiated by Icera in 2010 a year before Nvidia acquired the company), a judgement that could result in Nvidia's entire purchase price of $375m plus damages given QC effectively blocked them out of the market, if the EU antitrust investigation goes against QC - which is probably a foregone conclusion given Qualcomm's actions and past antitrust sanctions ( South Korea: $208m fine, China $975m fine, as well as the Taiwanese and second South Korean antitrust investigations presently underway).

I can't actually find any article where Nvidia "whined like a baby". If you can provide a link or two, I'd love to read them.

Explain. In this case, retarded implies intellectually under developed. To equate a business that hasn't caused deaths (except to some gfx cards) to a monstrous political party with genocidal tendencies and euthanistic policies is plain silly.

I know it was meant as an expression of 'contempt' but to do so in comparison to Samsung (by far more corporately maladjusted) is plain stupid.

You ought to check the meaning of irony.

That was the best case scenario. Nvidia losing it's case and seeing it's patents rejected and canceled, Samsung on the other NOT being Nvidia, but stopping this patent war just before Nvidia and it's partners getting a nice ban in the US market. Once more we see the different ways those two companies do business. Yes they are both businesses and they both try to make money, but their ways of doing business are different. Nvidia is a danger to the consumer. Only consumers who love monopolies and love to pay extra royalties for any device that sends picture on a screen will be disappointed from this decision. And Nvidia's shareholders and employees of course.

Mostly. But sometimes, when they win, The President of The United States of America uses his might to, cough, yeah:
http://www.theverge.com/2013/8/3/45...msung-patent-ban-on-iphone-4-and-select-ipads

And that, when banning Samsung, because, let me cite an apple "engineer": "when I used it for the first time, I thought it was iPhone" (talking about Samsung Galaxy phones)

PS
Truth be told, most global players are, well, global. Evading taxes on some tralala islands and what not.

Quite laughable considering your specs say you own a Samsung LCD and CRT. A decade of price-fixing and antitrust activities you think ISN'T a danger to consumers...man, you must live off Samsung's payroll.
Current Canadian litigation ($CAN 480m +$10m punitive damages sought) stemming from the use of faulty capacitors that Samsung only partially owned up to in 2012.
Dec 2015: South Korean bid-rigging by Samsung and others $157m
June 2015: US Class action regarding CRT price fixing by Samsung and others : $225m + $15m in state judgements and legal penalties.
Feb 2015: Reaches settlement with Microsoft after withholding IP license fees
Nov 2014 : Chinese LCD price fixing by Samsung: $15.9m
Sept 2014: EU SIM chip price fixing by Samsung: $46.15m.
Sept 2014: Canadian LCD price fixing by Samsung: $21.25m
Jan 2014: Samsung patent theft. Damage award to Ericsson: $650m
Oct 2013: Taiwanese regulators fine Samsung $340,000 for hiring people to post fake bad reviews of HTC products
Dec 2012: EU CRT price fixing by Samsung and others $197m
Jan 2012: FTC LCD price fixing by Samsung and others $22.6m
Dec 2011: US Class action LCD price fixing by Samsung and others $240m
Oct 2005: US DoJ DRAM price fixing by Samsung and others $300m + jail time and further fines for three Samsung execs
1998: Samsung bribery of U.S. Army personnel

....and that's without the whole Apple saga, a ton of domestic bribery of government agencies including the S.Korean judiciary, what looks like one hell of a shitshow with the Unaoil scandal that's brewing, and some assorted little stuff regarding various price fixing lawsuits including one brought by Radio Shack's receivers.
Guys, has AMD no GPU patents or are they too stupido to do some patent trolling?
AMD have been going at it for some time. Mostly unsuccessfully. Their current beef is with LG ( a company only slightly less corrupt than Samsung).

Quite laughable considering your specs say you own a Samsung LCD and CRT.
I also have an LG LCD, 42''. But please don't say it to Samsung.

What is laughable is you looking at someone's specs to devalue his comment. And... the TV? Really? I mean.... REALLY? The TV? What Nvidia tried to do is add a TAX on EVERY PAST PRESENT AND FUTURE device that comes with a screen or sends picture to a screen. I guess your Nvidia shares will not skyrocket any time soon.

PS What CRT?
PS2 You made me thinking. Other than two 18650 Samsung Li ion batteries, that TV is the only Samsung equipment in this house. And the SSD. I forgot the SSD. Samsung 840 EVO. The only SSD than needs defragmentation. Probably there are some Samsung memory chips on the graphics cards or the system memory. Damn. It looks like I am a huge fan of Samsung after all....

No, what is laughable is that think Samsung is a paragon of business virtue compared to Nvidia
Once more we see the different ways those two companies do business. Yes they are both businesses and they both try to make money, but their ways of doing business are different. Nvidia is a danger to the consumer.
Nvidia is a danger to the consumer because it pushes it's proprietary tech in tandem with its product lines and makes no secret of the fact. Nvidia who along with AMD were fined $925,000 each for a single case of price fixing.

...and you see Samsung's business model NOT being a danger to the consumer because they attempted to keep secret their DRAM price fixing, LCD price fixing, CRT price fixing, SIM chip price fixing, paying people to write false and damaging reviews about competitors products, using faulty components in televisions and other electronic goods and attempting to dupe consumers, and of course, bribery and bid rigging to strangle competition.

You are either a shill for Samsung or just a troll if you think that Samsung's level of corruption somehow equates to a better deal for consumers than Nvidia's practices - and that is without taking into account the scope of the respective companies product ranges and the level of detriment caused.
The fact that you can excuse the partial list of Samsung's abuses I posted while highlighting Nvidia's attempt at licensing - which I might add doesn't come anywhere close to your incoherent alarmist rant...
What Nvidia tried to do is add a TAX on EVERY PAST PRESENT AND FUTURE device that comes with a screen or sends picture to a screen.
...and just paints you as someone out of touch with reality. Every display device??? What a f'ing joke considering the amount of cross-licence IP agreements, independent GPU IP, and displays that don't even use GPU IP.

When/if you calm down and manage to put things into perspective, and the red mist clears, maybe you can take some time to do some actual reading...

You have made it very clear to all TPU by now, that you love Nvidia like it is your mother or something. From my point of view Samsung is a much better company than Nvidia. Samsung is many more years in the business and makes dozens of times more products than Nvidia in dozens of times more categories. Nvidia plays ball only in one major category that affects the final consumer and in that category alone tried to charge the average consumer probably more than what Samsung is doing in decades. Of course your only arguments here are that Nvidia had every right to make devices for consumers more expensive by using patents that are invalid, and of course things are not so bad because digital watches that Casio made in the 80's probably are not affected.

You still haven't explained how I have both a CRT and an LCD from Samsung. And I don't expect you to explain it because you know how stupid your mistake was there. I mean it is hilarious.

Well that says it all really....just as well I only read your comments for the comedy value. The hyperbole, straw man, and bung-frothing are first rate.

It was a typo. The system specs dropdown states "LCD/CRT Model" and I couldn't be arsed Googling to find out if it was one or the other - why you should think otherwise I don't know and care less. Time to get over it and stop trying to divert attention to your love of a bid-rigging, price fixing, bribing, and tax evading conglomerate......or carry on! you are providing laughs aplenty.

It wasn't a typo. You thought that "LCD/CRT" meant that I had both types of monitors. In other words, in your own words, "/" = "and".

But I have to admit that your explanation is more colorful and funny. Instead of saying "I did a mistake", a convenient mistake that would help you base that "Samsung fanboy" theory, you hit the panic button and turn to an aggressive way of replying, thinking that, by becoming aggressive, it will help you to cover up for that mistake and at the same time it will make you look better. Are you sure I am the one "providing laughs aplenty"?

I see one or two have managed to hijack another news thread, if it continues I will take great pleasure in handing out some free holiday passes, if you want to write "war and peace" to prove a point, please save me the trouble of reading it by putting it in a PM because quite frankly it is tiresome.
