AMD to Showcase Latest Technology During Computex 2016

AMD today announced it will hold a press conference and live webcast during Computex 2016 in Taipei, Taiwan. The event will begin on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at 10:00 AM CST / 10:00 PM EDT. The event will feature launch of 7th Generation AMD A-Series Processors, Polaris updates and more.

The event is slated to feature presentations from AMD executives including AMD President and CEO Lisa Su; Senior Vice President and General Manager, Computing and Graphics Business Group, Jim Anderson; and Senior Vice President and Chief Architect, Radeon Technologies Group, Raja Koduri.



A real-time video webcast of the event will be accessible on AMD's Computex page (www.amd.com/computex) and on AMD's Investor Relations home page (ir.amd.com). A replay of the webcast can be accessed a few hours after the conclusion of the live event on both pages and will be available there for one year after the event.

Last years event was Fiji chip tease and 390s behind close doors, more of the same or maybe they are playing the same game.

Announce they are announcing something. Wait 10+days to announce benchmarks and another 10 days to release it. who knows maybe they are coming up with a naming scheme to compete with the Founders Edition they can sell for more $$.

I highly doubt it. Polaris is a midranger. Vega will be the "Boom...1080 what?" chip. Which is fine because sub $300 cards are where more of the sales are. nVidia may rake in the high end but if AMD nails Polaris in the mid, it could be worth them not having Vega till later.

Yeah, I want to see the launch and then buy the graphic card next day. I mean, wouldn't this generate the most sales as well? People would buy it over hype and most likely wouldn't even wait for reviews. I know I kinda had that feeling with press release of GTX 1080 and would most likely just said fuck it and grab one. But since the actual availability is still days away, I've come to a conclusion I don't really need it as replacement for GTX 980...

As far as I'm aware, Zen will be in normal CPUs first. I think this is Excavator (the final generation of Bulldozer) but with DDR4 and on AM4.

If Raja was talking about mobile and mainstream, what he said is still valid. Nvidia only started offering hi end desktop parts, not mainstream of mobiles. Also if those two companies had agreed behind close doors that it is in their best interests (profit margins) to split the markets -desktop and mobile- in two and stay away from each other's feet for 4-6 months, obviously he knows what he is talking about and also that could explain his confidence about, where the competition is and what the competition is going to offer.

Well, they are not months ahead in transition in general obiously, we still have to see if they are in mainstream and mobiles. Do you have any info about when Nvidia will give mainstream products? GP106 is due to arrive in July. Looks like half a GP 104 (same deal as GM 206 to 204) 1280 cores/128-bit. I guess the GTX 1060 will be late July-early August depending on when the company need to have it in the marketplace.

It's AMD. We are used to have bad feelings, about what they are about to show. And I have to admit that they are responsible in part for that.

AMD grabbed a bit of market share from NV in Q1 2016.

On desktop it was +1.8%, mobile +7.3%.

So now AMD has:
Desktop: 22.7% - rather pathetic, especially considering that most cards are mid/low range and AMD is more than competitive there
Mobile: 38.7% - ok

I'd like to see an 8350 being on 14nn, 6GHz clocks, AM3+ and an extension of it's L2 and L3 cache, and if possible a TDP of 95W.

Wont happen. The amount of money AMD would have to spend to make bulldozer work on 14nm would be better spent on getting zen out the door. AM3+ is a dead socket, has been for several years now. It's chipset is more built to take on nehalem rather then anything modern, and it's built on 800 series silicon.

Id say both. On the one hand, its good to be wary when a company when they keep under-delivering. Over time, it will convince AMD that they really need to stop hyping and start delivering.

OTOH, AMD doesnt really have time to figure that out, and the skepticism and over-hype may be their downfall, even if polaris and zen are fantastic.
