GIGABYTE launched its GeForce GTX 1080 lineup with just two cards, the reference Founders Edition card, and the GTX 1080 G.1 Gaming, targeted at people who use their graphics cards for gaming. The GTX 1080 Xtreme Gaming, which was teased in older articles, however, was missing in action. It turns out that GIGABYTE wants to give this card some Computex fame before it hits the shelves as the company's flagship GTX 1080 offering (for now).

The GTX 1080 Xtreme Gaming is every bit as high-end and 'muscular' as described in our older article, but it turns out that GIGABYTE has made some major value additions. To begin with, the card will feature two front-facing HDMI ports, in addition to the one present on the rear bracket. An extended VR-link bracket lets you wire these ports out for additional HDMI ports, for your VR gear. The idea here is to let you plug in multiple HMDs to your machine, if it has enough compute power for multiple players in your game. The card also includes a more convenient 5.25-inch front-panel (if your case has them), with two HDMI ports, and two USB 3.0 ports that wire out from the motherboard's USB 3.0 front-panel header. Sadly, HMDs aren't plug-and-play, and you need to reboot your machine for your graphics card to detect and auto-configure them. The retail version of this card ships with a back-plate.

No back plate?
I was just about to say the same thing.
I was looking forward to this card and would have been the card to get for me.

With orange and no backplate its a no go for me and i think i will go with the Asus Strix instead.

The G1 Gaming is pretty ugly as well so Gigabyte has really taken a huge step backwards in looks this time around.

Very interested to see how this sunken fan design performs, and yes, no backplate is quite disappointing.

Now that I have a card with backplate, it's really hard to go back to none. Even if it doesn't play any particular role, it's a protection when I'm fiddling inside the case while system is running. I can touch the graphic card from above and I'm sure I won't fry anything. And it looks nice and it's also easier to clean the dust.

Been a Gigabyte fan for the 9-Series cards... but this Xtreme Gaming card is not appealing for me at all. The G1 1080 is also a step back from the 980Ti G1 in my eyes.

Also... would'nt it be better to have neutral colors if your device is RGB? The loud orange accents on the fan area as well as the sides will ruin the color coordination for me unless I do go with an orange theme.

With these 1080 cards, I think the Asus Strix has the best RGB implementation: Blacked out card with RGB accents.

This is an early engineering sample, if you look closely there's a white bracket connected to the PCB. It's our flagship card, of course the mass production card has a backplate, you'll see more pictures tomorrow.
Are you an official Gigabyte spokesman?

I'm back with proof...

It was not my intention to call you a liar or anything like that, just wanted to know if you were from Gigabyte, sweet looking card and welcome to TPU.

I hope the pricing is near Zotac AMP extreme model!

Holy crap thats a nice looking backplate!
This card is back as my number 1 pick again, just one question those stripes are they red or orange?

Sory for asking but its hard to tell for me on my monitor.

That is a sexy back plate, I like it a lot.

Giga, can you share some specs/price with the class? In case they are still not under NDA... :D

I was a bit scared with no backplate, but nice comeback! Now we are talking! When does this hit retail stores? :)

That looks sweet! How long is the card? My FT02 can fit roughly 12" long cards so will that thing fit?

i like the card, also the backplate seems great too,
@Gigabyte-Gaming there is Gigabyte's gaming PSU?
nice...
