Noctua is among the first CPU cooler manufacturers to develop a retention kit for the upcoming AMD socket AM4. There are three versions of this, compatible with all existing Noctua coolers, except D0 series and NH-L9i series. This means that even 10-year old heatsinks from Noctua should be able to cool next-gen AMD chips. Noctua will be giving these away for free to all existing customers (proof of purchase required).

I read somehwere that Amd was keeping its am2 retention mechanism for heatsinks for their upcoming apu/cpu platform.

Thermaltake first confirmed that the same mounting holes were to be used on AM4, but they deleted their post claiming misinformation, so it's probably a new mounting system.

Thats interesting, I really hoped that Amd will keep their old mounting system as it was quite good. But new mounting holes means new mounting system. I have couple of Hyper 212Evo lying around, let hope CM follows suit and provide free mounting h/w for new Amd processors.

Yes but, I would be surprised. The socket is probably a different size since the pin count is different so, they may have widened the spacing in order to accommodate the larger socket.
