NVIDIA's more economically significant graphics card based on the "Pascal" architecture, the GeForce GTX 1070, goes on sale from today (10/06). The card starts at US $379, with NVIDIA selling the reference-design board for a $70 premium, as the GTX 1070 Founders Edition, priced at $449. With NVIDIA claiming performance levels higher than the previous-generation $999 GeForce GTX Titan X, the GTX 1070 could prove to be the gateway to 4K Ultra HD gaming with reasonably high eye-candy.

Based on the 16 nm "GP104" silicon, the GeForce GTX 1070 features 1,920 CUDA cores, 120 TMUs, 64 ROPs, and a 256-bit GDDR5 memory interface, holding 8 GB of memory. The core ticks at 1506 MHz, with a GPU Boost frequency of 1683 MHz, while the memory runs at 2000 MHz (actual), 8 GHz (GDDR5-effective), yielding a memory bandwidth of 256 GB/s. Display outputs include three DisplayPort 1.4, one HDMI 2.0b, and a dual-link DVI-D.

I'm sure vendors will gouge on prices. I'd imagine we'll have to wait for the first couple waves of sold-out vendors before we see MSRP.

Where's the $379 pricing? $450 translates to some ~$585 CAD, which is quite a bit for a card that's some 20% faster than the RX480. I'm not complaining... I'm buying a 480, which should sell for less than half that price here in Canada, but it kinda says a thing or two about this lying slimy dishonest company.

Is not only nVidia's fault, most of it is of Retailer's. All of them are greedy bastards going for a quick profit from impatient idiots with cash to throw away.
This is how it always was.

Retailers in our place still has some of these higher than msrp priced 980s and 970s and almost same price as 980Tis, the 1070 would cannibalize these if they don't raise the price of the 1070

People keep going on about prices, but this is simple supply and demand, it's like this with every new generation, nothing new, if I was a retailer I would do the exact same thing.

thats what they want you to think *manually decreases the amount of cards available on the website while gauging the price* sssshhhh, tell no one what you just saw
Yeah, and based on what reviewers tell you, some people might say, you know $500 still seems like a steal considering this is better than a $1000 Titan X :p

That could only be true if all of the retailers on the planet are in league with each other, otherwise there would be one who would sell it at MSRP and clean out the stock and just order more and end up making the most money.

Waiting for 1060 mini itx size. Should be a decent upgrade to my current card, and Nvidia Iray should be supported by then.

Of course if Nvidia flood the market with product, that immediately devalues it.
By limiting stock they can keep the asking price high due to demand.

Yeah, I expect the 1070 to be the run-away card, it'll be out of stock forever. But look over here, the $599 $699 1080 FE will be well stocked then.

not to sound like a hater......until 3rd party reviews come out...the 480 performance is questionable. Amd's track record should speak for itself. If this card performs to that level.....Amd is a fool to sell it so cheap unless they got massive volume to offset it.

You would think it works like that, but it does not, retailers are kind of in league with each other really.
You would want them to compete each other to death but that does not happen, all products are pretty much the same price everywhere.

Ferrari vs Volkswagen, which do you think gets a higher profit?
Also AMD's track record? you mean that 5000, 6000, 7000 etc series which all were fantastic? or did you meant it in a positive way?

Look at it this way: at least these early adopters are keeping the dwindling PC market afloat.

Can't complain about others paying the premium for my better choice in products for the future. Kudos to them! RUN ON THAT 550 dollar 1070 bois!

While it is expected for a much cheaper card to sell better than a much more expensive one, I don't think 1070 will have the success of 970. I think 1080 will sell much better than 980, while 1070 will sell much worst than 970. 970 was playing along back then, 1070 have to deal with 980Tis, new that will probably sell out at discounts from retailers and second hand, 980s, Furys, Nanos etc. At the same time Polaris is promising just too much for less than $250 and that will be enough to make people not to invest over $300. 970 on the other hand had only to fight Tonga and Tonga wasn't enough to stop people from going to 970. On the contrary 970 was the reason for 285X to get delayed for a full year.
