Also, Nvidia wouldn't want to come out with a $250 card just yet. Except if they acknowledge that they have a serious problem with GTX 1070/GTX 1080 availability and they feel the need to flood the market with a cheaper card at higher volumes. GP106 and GDDR5 could help in that.

Well, if RX480 performs all right, it would serve as a wake up call to a company that hasn't released anything in the $200-250 segment in a year and a half. And even then, it was just the GTX 960 which is anything but a $200 worthy card.
Plus, if the 1080/1070 are difficult to manufacture, they can just repurpose faulty chips as 1060. But that's just speculation, because it would imply all three cards share the same physical die.

If the RX 480 didn't perform as well as I expected from the user benchmarks, I might stay with Nvidia.
Latest rumors put the RX480 at about the performance of an overdclocked GTX 970, at least in DX11 titles.

At DX12 it would probably be better. I guess GTX 1060 would have to be at least as fast as GTX 970. Just better that GTX 960 will not be enough except if it comes at a price lower than $200.

What we need is a wake up call to the consumers who demand fast cards from AMD with the hope to buy cheaper Nvidia cards. And when AMD fails to give that, they go and buy overpriced Nvidia cards blaming AMD again. It's a win win situation for Nvidia no matter what AMD will do.
I think faulty GP104 chips are rumored for a GTX 1060Ti.

Hopefully the drivers would be good. As of now, I am stuck with my GTX 680 which isn't by any means a bad card. Just very old and if I want a better game experience with recent titles I am sure an upgrade would be inevitable lol.

Guys, relax.

The 660 was shit (I know first hand) and the 660TI was even worse (192 bit disaster)
The 960 was shit (770 was better and faster at same price point when it got released)
The 760 was meh because we all had a 670 already

The 1060 will be shit with a high price tag, 3GB and 6GB versions, some nubs will put it in SLI and the rest will be sorry they bought one. If it gets priced below the RX 480, it will be shit with a low price tag and still succumb to a tight bus.

RX 480 all the way. Nvidia X60 has never been any good. Nvidia x50TI is the value king, not x60. Evidenced by the 750ti still going strong and the 550ti as best selling Fermi card.

In that case, I wonder what my GTX 680 will be counted as compared to a GTX 970. :p

I'm more interested in knowing if this is a further cut down GTX 1070 chip or if it is different silicon. If the former, that strongly suggests NVIDIA has yield problems.

I'm still using my 660Ti for all my gaming needs (@1920x1200, though Witcher 3 isn't exactly smooth one enough eye-candy is enabled). If I wasn't thinking about going for a higher resolution monitor, I wouldn't need an upgrade. So it can't be that bad. Then again, I'm used to mid range cards, I never buy the more expensive stuff.

I think faulty GP104 chips are rumored for a GTX 1060Ti.

Well in pure fp32 it would mean that heavy OC gtx970 2*1664*1.6GHz=5324.8GFlops, would need hefty OC 5324.8GFlops/(2*1280)=2,08GHz for gtx1060(if gtx1060 have 1280 cuda cores). "stock" to "stock"(by boost):
2*1664*1.178GHz=3920.384GFlops/(2*1280)=1,5314GHz.
Looking pure fp32 only it should be as fast or faster than gtx970. Memory bandwidth should be quite close too, pascal has better color compression, probably 8Gbps chips and of course that gtx970 "256bit" bus...

Faulty gp104 chips are going to mobile, there's more dough to get(well if there's more faulty gp104 than mobile needs and if amd has the card which forces the nvidia to release more cutted gp104, then maybe we have gtx1060ti)...

Anyway, I am curious whichever upgrade I choose I am sure it'll be a big boost if I am to go with something around my current budget for GPU of $600. :D

It depends on what you need. If play games at 1920x1080, the it probably won't be a big boost.
Personally, I'd love to move to 4k, but the technology isn't cheap enough yet. Video cards or monitors.

Different tier though. The 760 was pretty solid, if you got the right version anyway.

I might move to 1440p.

But as of now I just want to experience 144hz if possible or G-Sync.

Which might be an upgrade on both the monitor and GPU when I am planning it.

The cooler looks unchanged from GTX 1070 FE. The heatsink for sure looks a lot bigger than RX 480's and I assume they must have similar power comsumption... Perhaps it will be the first blower that is quiet and not thermal throttle! Ooor they will gimp it just enough to make sure it reaches 83 ºC and throttles as always.

Heatsink? Is there a another picture or what. I see only that ugly plastic shroud, which is quite similar sized as RX480(measured by pcie connector).

Well im assuming the top part of the shroud is transparent, and what we see beneath it are the heatsink fins, like the 1070 and 1080 FE editions.

Well look closer:

Those does not look like fins, only plastic shroud. 1070/1080 FE:s have agrylic glass sheet window in there:

Ah, I forgot about the >60Hz monitors. Those could use a beefier GPU, too.

I can tell you from Hong Kong, the RX480 is selling for $300 over at Capital.
So still RIP RX 480.

Also in Hong Kong a 1070 is selling around 500$, which is not really a good price or anything like that. I think a RX480 at 300 is far better than a 1070 at 500$ don't you think?

Yes, in CrossFire the RX 480 is way faster, but we all know about these half assed Console Ports nowdays. It's always a gamble wether it works or not.

Seems a bit early, they may release it if they feel the need to because of the RX 480 to counter it if they feel the need for something in the value market but I still think that's a ways off. I don't doubt they have one and are preparing it, just from history they normally wait a little while before releasing their lower segment cards and I think this one will be just the same.

Still though, if they do release one sooner than later it will just depend on how the cards does for its price. We have no idea one way or another and even then if this is the full chip (Meaning is there a 1060ti hiding) which could throw even more wrenches into the discussion. Best to just wait on both the RX 480 and more information about the GTX 1060 before jumping to conclusions.

Don't have or like a window on my case. Don't care what the cooler *looks* like, only how well it performs.
